Rodger that! I can't do half the stuff I used to lol. My 20's were fun but I wouldn't change anything now. And besides, once you get to the 30's you realize how stupid you were in your 20's lol.

What's going on with the drifting at Yakima Speedway? A couple of friends and I were going to check it out last night and were informed by the track manager that there would be no more drifting there.

Naa, I doubt you missed anything. The people running this show seem to be way to busy to let everyone know what is going on. :/ Maybe it's just and inside friend thing, I donno.

Actually I am one of the guys running the event. To work with the Yakima Speedway in getting this project going is very difficult, namely because they are a different generation than us and don't completely understand the art of drifting. They are the main reason we can't get anything organized. But thanks to such support from the last event we were able to strong arm them. I would like to say a few things about them but don't want to bad mouth them in any way since they have given us an opportunity, we'll leave it at that.

What happened is this:

Originally we were going to be practicing with the speedway drivers, as there are usually only about 3-4 of them out there on Wednesdays, so at first glance it would be no problem. And again it was mainly a testing ground for what the drifting community could provide here Centrally and the speedway wanted to see what we had to offer.

On Wednesday April 29, our first practice day was a Huge success. The only problem is too many people showed up and we ended up taking over the speedways practice and turning it into our own show, well this is exactly what drifting exemplifies. With only a weeks notice 12 drifters showed up and over a 100 spectators were out there to support this, but as with any good thing the guys there practicing for the speedway were complaining they didn't get enough practice time, since we basically overwhelmed them.

We even had a guy with a right hand drive rx7 show up.

BUt this is exactly what we needed to do, we took over the track and showed the speedway the potential for this. And since then we were able to negotiate our very own days for drifting on Sunday, so we wouldn't have to contend with anyone else. We will be getting 2 Sundays per month for this. I will end up putting up a website here soon as to provide more orginization for this. As for now we are communicating by phone and email. Our first official drift day will be May 17, 2009 at 2pm drivers will be meeting at about 12pm for lunch and safety/tech talk. Spectating will be free and drifting will be $25 same goes to pit observers $25. We are not requiring roll cages or 5pt harnesses but is strongly urged that you have these for your safety if you decide to get more serious about it. You will need a helmet and working seat belts at the ver least, more tech requirements will be noted as well as a couple of waivers you'll need to sign before drifting.

On top of all this we were able to negotiate an airport field local to Yakima that is a half mile long and over 50 feet wide to continue our dreams of drifting in the Central Washington area. So we now have to locations we will be utilizing for this project. If you are interested in any way for getting involved with this please email me at rotarymastr7@aol.com or just post here.

I apologize if anyone wasted a trip last Wednesday. I just want to make clear that the Speedway is allowing drifting to continue on.

ALso there will be no passengers. Last time we allowed passengers but due to safety reasons we will not continue that. Only the drift instructors and myself will be allowed as passengers for instructional purposes.

Yes, I can't wait to hit up some of them events in evergreen, and hopefully once our team builds up down here we can eventually go down there one of these days. Big thumbs up to all the drifters in the NW for keeping the flame lit for grassroot enthusiasts like us, and offering a new form of motorsports for everyone to experience.
