Any interest in Drifting this year (Central Washington Area)
I'm gauging interest on anyone who would be intrested in drifting this year. This applies to those who are already experienced at drifting or those who have dreamt about it and want to learn. Either way this is a chance for you to utilize a new course and be able to gain experience in drifting, through actual hands on experiences and experience from those more skilled in the area. These events would be at a track located Centrally in Washington. Cost will be dependent on how many people are involved, but estimates are in the price range of $50 to $100 per person at each event, again the more people the more drifting will be cheaper for everyone.
This will mainly be geared for people in the Central Washington area or east of the mountains as there has never been much involvement in drifting or access to drifting until now. This will make it more convient for those in the area. However Westsiders are encouraged to participate as well.
It will be an ongoing spring/summer involvement with on and off course gathering. We would be meeting for the events, and also meeting up once and a while to share input from each other to educate each driver into becoming better drifters.
I am planning it in the early stages to get involvement from as much people as possible to make these events happen. The goal of these events would be to have as many practice runs at least 2-3 on the track as possible and have one final event, with full specators,sponsorships, with cash and prizes.
If anyone has any input on this or may be interested please let me know here. The plans for the first drift event will be in May. The location and exact date will be disclosed the sooner the time comes.

Interested. Trying to think of where you are going to be doing this.
Most events I have gone to seem like they are being run by 8 year olds with walkie-talkies. Also most have WAY to many people for the event / time available. Getting anything less than 10 runs for the day at the cost of $100 is a complete waste. I guess I am saying, I would rather pay more and get a serious practice than have 35 people show up and get a set of runs every hour. I like to show up with two extra sets of rear tires, but I guess that is just me.
Keep us up to date on what is going on, but I fear there is going to be a lot of cars that should not be driven on a public road, let alone on a race track showing up. Do yourself and everyone else a favor and have HIGH tech standards.
You might want to think about having a noob OMG open diff my tire was spinning event, and a completely different day for people that have a clue what is going on. The noobs will be happy just to get to drive on the track a couple times, and will take up a majority of the day spinning out and having car issues. Just an idea.

I'm planning to have a cap off at around 25 drifters.
Again, this is in the rough stages right now. I am trying to work out a contract with the owner to get track prices down which would mean we wouldnt need so many people participating. And would allow us more days at the track. Like I said I would like prices to be under $100 per person and close to $50 as possible. But the track could be used either half a day at half the cost or a full day. Other things like ambulance being there and insurance costs are all being added into the cost of participation. If it is used at a full day usage I don't think there would be much of a problem with how many runs as we are talking about at least 12 hours of usage so approximately 1/2 hr. each person. This is all based on how many people are going to participate.
I realize there is going to be a majority of people that have no clue how to drift. And others who have some experience in it. Obviously this isn't going to be a bunch of professionals out there. But that is part of the whole goal, so that people can learn what it takes and have an opportunity to engage themselves in a legal manner. And to take it a step further, I plan on having at least one meet before actual d-day events as a tech day. There will be plenty of literature and discussion so that people can have a better understanding of what is going on out there on the track.

Awwww the one with the body kit? Nice nice! How are things going with your car? I know it has been a while but are you still blowing piping?
Looks like you are heading in the right direction. At first I see getting to 25 people in central WA to pass tech an issue. Don't give in. All it takes is one numb nut to ruin it for everyone.

car is running great. changed the clamps to a higher grade seemed to fix the problem.
Tech passing shouldn't really be a major obstical for drivers, it will be the basic as with most ameteur drift events: seats completely bolted in and secure, working seatbelts, driving helmets, bearings on the wheels to be operable, battery completely secure, tire tread safe, no chemical leaks.
Yeah the best way to help is to let as many people you know who might be interested to join up.
The track will pretty much closely resemble that of the Monroe track just a bit smaller in size.
I don't want to disclose the area just yet as this is still up in the air.

I'm glad you brought that up. Well we finally found our home the track will be at the Yakima Speedway.
This was an update to our members.
"Well I just got done with negotiations with, Yakima Speedway, the track we will be using for drifting. And they are supporting us fully with the drifting proposition. One of my major goals on behalf of the drivers was pushing the cost of practices down as little as possible, using the track for practice runs, being able to configure that track in ways to fit our needs, and then ultimately renting the track out for a drift competion/car show. The track is a 1/2 mile track btw. I got the go ahead for everything, and to top that off practices will be cheap! cheap! cheap! $15 for Wednesday, and Saturday will be $50 based on availability, did I say cheap!
So in other words drifting in Yakima is a GO! I'll start posting a schedule once everything is configured.
I feel its a major milestone for getting drifting involvement in the Central Washington area. Although the track itself isn't the most ideal one for starting off with, it will be the most ideal for showcasing our skills once acquired. Once involvment gets bigger we can even start venturing off to other locations we had in mind as well being able to scale the cost down due to spreading it over more members.
I know its kind of short notice, but the Yakima Speedway thought it would be a good idea to showcase what we are doing at a car show happening this Saturday starting at 9:30- to about noon at the Mike Olson dodge dealership. I've got a few members attending, this would be our first meeting and a great chance to introduce ourselves to the community. I would like everyone to try and make it before 10:00 am. If you can make it that would be great."

When are we going to start drifting Wednesday and Sat.? This Wednesday? For all the drifters out there that might not be in the loop yet, SCCA seattle drift practice and lessons by an instructor at happening on the 4th. Check http://www.northwestnissans.com/ for information and registration.
Would be nice to get in a practice on Wed., find out if my LSD is working correctly or not, have time to fix things, then go to drift practice on the 4th (Sat.) in Seattle, and then the the drift event at Evergreen on the 5th (Sun.).

Yeup ok. A little late. :P It's ok I found out my turbo is starting to go out. I need to find another turbo before I can go drifting/driving anyway. What's next?

HEy tweak Chris has got a turbo for sale. Might be a little much for your needs though,lol.
Well it turned out to be a pretty good show up there were about 10 of us I was quite suprised being it was such short notice. Everyone is excited about this the Speedway, members, and general public, so it was an excellent opportunity to just be out there letting everyone know whats going on, even though on such short notice. Seeing the excitement being drawn up even further supported the speedways decision to saying yes to this.
I was able to talk to the Speedway owners and managers in further detail. Here is what they came up with. Every wednesday we can practice drifting for $15. Every Saturday drifting will be $25, based on availabilty. In other words if they have their apple cup or Major event we wont be able to use it on Saturday. We can start as soon as possible, but I would like to hold an official meeting this weekend April 4, 2009. I'll have to bump things ahead of schedule as I didn't realize everything was going to pan out so soon. But, I feel we should take advantage of it. It's okay if your car is not ready I mean we have all season to practice. There are a few people out there who are still piecing there project together so others will come later too. We have a lot of people who are ready so we will be utilizing the track asap. Although I feel every wednesday and saturday is a little much for our needs right now, we will probably break it down to 3-4 times per month instead, depending on how everyone agrees at the first meeting.
The first official meet will be at Miner's drive in this Saturday. April 4, 2009 at 11:30 am we welcome anyone who is interested in this to be there.

Again this is absolutely freaking cheap $15 to drift on Wednesday and $25 on Saturday. I don't know anywhere else where you can drift this cheap on a professional track.
