just a thought i kinda live around that area and the drive to the back side of or aka windy ridge is a much more fun/twisty/less traffic of a drive then up to castlerock way. I made the trip probably 6 or 7 times last summer on my bike and my car and it is way better. I know i'm new and all but i am definatly not new to the st helens run been driving it the last 11 years. i will come along to the johnston ridge run but we DEFINATLTY need to go to windy ridge

Chris is right the back side is a better drive/ride. I would like to go, but won't have the car ready by then. And I am sure as hell not going to be a passenger in Apex's car. You guys mind if I rode my bike?

I'm just saying it would be a hurl of a good time if I'm in the passenger seat of your car that's all.

I'm golden.Got a babysitter to watch my son for the day. Moto do you know of a road that will connect the west side of the mountain to the windy ridge drive ? I guess I can call a ranger station to see if I can get a map.

Actually the only connection between both roads is either by foot or a "Off-Road" that isn't open to the public. SO we're SOL if we want to go on the east side from Windy Ridge. East Side NF-99 is a cooler road in my opinion, but rather far for the majority of the people going on this drive. Unless both Washington and Oregon groups come seperate ways and meet at the base of NF-99.

Washington - I-5 - 12 - 25
Oregon - I-5 - 503 - 25 or I-30/14 - Wind River Rd - 25
East side is a full day of driving. The last time I did I-5 - 503 - 25 - 99 - 25 - 12 -Stevens Canyon Rd - Paradise Rd - 706 - 7 - 12 - I-5 (577 miles) on my bike in 7 hours, averaging 80 mph and only stopping for gas/stretch/view. The average speed limit on that route was 50 mph.
West will be a half day, maybe less depending on how fast people drive. Round trip - 3 hours without stopping from either Portland of Seattle. So most likely 5-6 hours with all the scenic stops and bar hops people will most likely do.
