13B engine in a jetboat
Can anyone offer me a suggestion? I have a jetboat with a Mazda 13B engine. I bought a rebuilt last year and found a guy who would do the replacement near my home. Turns out the guy doesn't know what he is doing. He has the old engine and the new rebuilt. He has done some work but is spending WAY too much time and seems confused. I'm not able to physically do the work myself (because of my age). Can anyone give me a suggestion of a place or person who might be able to help me with this problem? I live in So. Oregon but I'm willing to drive to someone who is knowledgeable!

hello from spokane,, a friend of mine used to have a shop that did some of those conversions here in town and i had helped him on occasion. I could do the work , but there's probably someone closer to you. Perhaps keep me in mind if you need some phone or email support. The engines that my friend was installing were special ones for the boats simular to the 87 turbo rx7 13b. everything should be pretty easy as long as the blocks are the same type. If not the same your manifolds might not fit and you might have balance problems with the flywheel. john from spokane 509-327-5194 JOHNDJOHND@msn.com

I appreciate all of you who are giving me names and advice. I'm going to try to find out what is the actual state of affairs within the next day or two.
I don't blame people for wanting to take on half completed projects but I may need to take the boat away from the guy if he either can't handle it. I don't want a major screw up since the rebuilt engine was not cheap.
Thanks again to those of you who've answered and to anyone with more ideas, please share them with me.

Spyder--Thanks for your offer but I'm not sure there is anything anyone can do.
I stopped by the guy's shop yesterday and things are worse than I expected. He truly is over is head. It is boat season and he is very busy working on boats that he knows how to fix. My boat and engine are too complicated for him and he seems to be afraid to continue. He "now" says that he never should have tried to do the work. I'd take everything away from him and go somewhere else, but I learned that he made some modifications to the new engine and that worries me. If I take it away, it takes him off the hook. I need him to be responsible for the possible mistakes he has made, so I'm going to have to wait him out. My boat is with him (near Medford). I tried offering to come and help but he is very defensive (and doesn't seem like the swiftest guy I've ever met). My grand ideas about picking up the motors and taking them to someone who "knows" what they are doing have been dashed!
I wish there was something someone could do to help me (and the guy who's fixing it) but I don't think there is. So, I'm stuck.
Thanks again for all of you who gave advice. I'm going to keep the names and numbers "just in case!"

it seems to me that right when i heard the guy admit to being over his head, i would have left and made preperations to pick everything up. im sure pinneaple racing will take good care of you. but i can not talk from experience, i dont live down in oregan and i have never taken a vehicle to them.

I will be down in Medford one week from today. I would be willing to do the swap/give you a hand. I will be in the area for about 1 week. I have 10 years experience with rotaries (my own RX-7s). Send me a PM if you want me to give you a hand.
