TN Wont spool

i have a 1987 Turbo II and the turbo wont spool up and the car jerks and bucks when i try and give it too much throttle. I think the turbo might need a rebuild or needs replacing. Any input is appreciated

There could be a number of causes for this.

First thing to check is the TPS sensor. If it's bad, out of adjustment or unplugged you will see these types of problems.

Next, test the the pressure sensor.

Does the car sputter and buck anytime throttle is applied, or is it RPM dependent?

thank you for this information. It is not rpm dependent, its throttle dependent. What i mean is that if i barely give it gas, it will rev all the way to 8400. If i give it to much, it will buck and jerk like you are popping the throttle in and out from wide *** open to shut to wot again. I can check the tps when i get back home, but i am not quite sure what you mean by the pressure sensor. Where is it located and is it a 5v sensor like the TPS? Thanks again. Any more input is greatly appreciated

The pressure sensor is on the passenger shock tower. Check the 2nd gen FAQ for the FSM, which will have testing instructions.

Ok, that shouldn't be to difficult to find and diagnose. How much do tps run for for the 87 tii? I also read somewhere that the grounding system from the battery, to engine to chassie is a problem for these cars. Is this a true statement and if it is how would one go about fixing this?

Grounding: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/grounding.htm

A new TPS is around $350, but good used ones are common on the market. Most of the time they don't go bad, just out of adjustment.

Does not sound like a turbo issue at all but I would want to know what was done to the car before this issue. usually it all can be back tracked.

And thinking about issues over the computer is harder so if you can think about anything you have done to it before then then check that first or post it. Other than that you need to look over the whole system.
Could be ecu, vac, pressure, etc.....

That does make sense. However, i got the car stock and it is currently stock. Im sure i could find the problem myself if i had a book that would tell me how to take the car apart and put it back together with torque specs and all that information plus how to test the electrical system like wether or not its a 5v digital reference signal from the computer, or if its a 12v analog source from the battery and were everything is located and what not. Thats kinda what i was looking for and the title of this thread was very misleading i guess huh.lol. I checked out chiltons and there wasnt enough information so i wanted to get an idea of all the possible things it could be and check them and source the problem from there. So far i have that its not a turbo spool problem. Thats a plus. You said it could be the throttle position sensor, i would need to know how to check it and adjust it if that is the problem. Also, vacuum hoses, i would like to know which ones could cause this and were they are located. The ecu i dont think is the problem but it will blame everything else before it blames itself so i will check that shortly. I will also look into the pressure sensor, although i have never heard of it before. Its on the shock tower you said. I really just need a couple of problem part names and a book to tell me how to test and fix the part. Sorry for being so misleading. I also appreciate the input so far.
