Hello,
I got a 88000 miles FD (1994) with a rebuilt engine (8000 miles, new everything but all stock), it is a touring (I am trying to add the R1/R2 components to it little by little, front lip, strut bar, etc... I just don't know if I'll be able to add the second oil cooler).
I would like to take it to a track a couple of days a year (3 or 4 max). I am not looking for more power nor race but rather reliability such that I don't brake it during these events.
I am slowly getting most of the recommended upgrades you can find on this website (downpipe, aftermarket AST, water temp gauge etc...) and I am also doing the recommended maintenance (coolant flush, oil & oil filters etc etc...). I'll flush brake fluid and put some good pads (EBC seems good, a bit pricey though). The suspension have never been changed I am sure so I am planning on doing that as well.
Do you think I should look more at cooling system upgrade? The stock rad is also 88000 miles but does not seems to leak, I'll put silicon rad hoses (every hoses I can can replace actually, the AST one probably when I find what size they are and where to order it).
I just want to have fun a few times a year with the stock 255HP, no race or such.
What do you think ????
Thanks for your feedback.
Joel

Hey Joel,
You really should replace the radiator with an aftermarket aluminum one (personally I would go with Fluidyne) also replace the AST tank with an aluminum one, and I would also recommend an intercooler upgrade (stock mount or v-mount would be best for road racing).
New vacuum hoses/simplification would also be good to do if not already done.
Hope that helps,
-Matt
