Troubleshooting the oil pressure

So i recently rebuilt my N/A 13b with a streetport, put it in my 87 fc, and when i crank the engine with the spark plugs out and the ignition fuse out, the oil pressure stays at zero on the gauge, I thought it might be my oil pressure sensor that went out, so i tried to start with the spark plugs in and coils attached, and still no luck.

The engine has great compression by the way, and i put gaskets and o rings in all of the places they should be, just like the rebuild dvd i followed instructed. I think i may have built it with a little too much end play (.003"), and yes, i realize thats gonna give me variable timing, but i didnt find that out until afterwards and im gonna take care of that soon, but i don't think that would affect my oil pressure at all...

i might have hooked something up incorrectly, (though im not sure what because all vacuum lines are sealed and go to the right places based on the shop manual), so im basically just asking if there is any other reason oil pressure may not be building up?

Anyways, the help would be appreciated, im so close to getting this girl to run. thanks

Hey mate, You will need to prime it if its been rebuilt and has a lack of oil inside it. Firstly avoid cranking without pressure as this only causes damage. You will need to undo a main oil line on top of block or your oil filter housing will do. Grab a small funnel and pour oil into it. It will be very slow to go down in there but get as much as you can inside it, then reassemble and crank and you will find oil pressure will come up.. if you have no issues.

And one more thing, by "as much as you can" do you mean basically until it stops going down?

Yea mate until oil stops going down. Then reasemble and crank over and oil pressure should come up. This works with most engines not just rotarys.

As soon as the engine starts, oil pressure will come right up. The assembly lube you used when you built the engine is there to provide lubrication for the initial startup. Just takes a while for the oil pump to fill the whole oil system at slow cranking speeds, and it won't really register on the gauge.

No, but the clearance will quickly increase as the bearings are beat up by the eccentric sliding back and forth everytime the clutch is pressed.
