Transmision cooler

I have an 82 with a leak in the transmision cooler ,can these be reparied or recored like radiators for the engine coolant or am I going to have to replace the unit. Where would be a good source for a replacement if that is the only option .

the cooler for auto trannys is inside the tank of the radiator. that's how trans fluid gets in the coolant. there's no replacement for them, or repair of the cooler itself. a new rad has to be purchased. now if this is an aftermarket cooler, u'll have to check with a local rad repair shop. probably just as cheap to buy another one.

Transmision cooler

This is for a 5 speed .The unit is seperate from the radiator and is the original part . Aftermarket ones mount differently and would detract from the value of my car ,being a very low mileage all original 1982. I would like to keep it as original as possible ,
I was just wondering if anyone has had one repaired before . I 'll take your suggestion and contact a radiator shop and see what they tell me before I go the aftermarket direction.

manual tranny cars don't have coolers from the factory and i'm unaware of any dealer installed ones. if ur talking bout the one under the oil filter, that's the engine oil cooler. post up pix of what u have.

I have the car in a storage unit right ,but I think you are right about it being the engine oil cooler . It is about 5 inches tall X 3 wide and the length of the radiator . Don't know what I was thinking . Any fix for this ,or am I looking at a replacement.

pre-83 "engine oil cooler" is located below the radiator. do a search in the first gen section, you have several options

if its the oil cooler you can always buy a larger aftermarket one for a little upgrade.

There are no inexpensive aftermarket coolers that work as well as the stock unit.

If it is only a minor leak, most rad shops can fix it for you.

Otherwise, they are always available used for very cheap. If you are into fabrication, you can use any oil cooler from any RX car.

I was able to find a new one through a Mazda dealer, but they are asking.
WAY TO MUCH. I agree with not using aftermarket . I'm going to take the unit in and have it looked at or consider a used one.
