Things to look for when buying a 7?
Particularly a torn apart 7.
I'm looking for a cheap project that needs an engine rebuild. And I'm just wondering what to look out for as far as engine condition if its torn apart, or if people regularly mess stuff up while doing so.

Make sure you're getting a good deal if its apart and find out why it is apart. I had a mechanic mate show me some of the damage a broken apex seal can do and you can write off the engine pretty easily in that case. The damage might not be so apparent until everything is cleaned up too so be careful of that.
As far as stuffing up goes I wouldnt trust any previous owner, if it turns out their work was good it's a bonus.

most importantly i would make sure the chassis itsself is a good chassis check for bent frame rails, rust, things like that, otherwise the project would be kinda a waste. As far as the engine goes i somewhat agree with N16 TURBO see if you can bring a buddy that knows rotarys along to check it out.
