steady torque

i read somewhere that although rotaries aren't the best candidate for high torque numbers that the torque that is there is pretty linear.
can anyone elaborate on this or just confirm?

Yep that is true...

Turbo rotary engines tend to have better torque but you will still seldom see a rotary motor with more torque than HP. The modern non turbo Renisis Rotary motor found in the RX-8 makes 232 HP peak, but only 160 ft/lbs peak

On some rotary motors the Torque curve is flat between 3500 and 6000 RPM and generally at its peak the entire time.

And also the further you go past 5.5k the more and more horsepower vs torque you should have. With almost all rotaries reving to 7-9k its only natural they should have much more horsepower than torque.

Torque= How much of the wall you are going to take with you when you crash.

Horsepower= Just how hard you hit the wall.
