Smokey Engine

Smokey Engine
I just had my 12A engine rebuilt. It has about 2500 on the rebuild. I'm concerned because the engine sometimes smokes white plumes when I start it. The rebuilder states that it has a faulty air control valve. Otherwise, the compression is excellent and I have no other issues. Does this sound right?

You're going to have to smell that smoke to tell what it is. It will smell like coolant (think maple syrup), oil, or fuel.
It could be an internal coolant seal issue, fuel leaking into the motor after shutdown, or oil leaking into the "combustion chamber".
I don't know if a faulty air control valve could cause this (I stripped all emissions years ago and haven't looked back).
Let me know what it smells like and I'll give you some ideas on how to troubleshoot and address the issue...

First and foremost let me thank you for the post about the smoke. I hadn't given it any thought to smelling it. I will today and l will let you know. Thanks.
