Single Turbo Question

Hi guys,

Im new to this so forgive me for being neive.

Before you all tell me to look in the archives, I have. I couldn't find anything that answered my question.

I have a 2001 FD RS.

In fourth gear at low speed (and RPM) and accelerating there is a matallic swish sound comming from the gearbox. When I get to higher speed the noise goes away. It starts quiet at low rpm and gets louder as I accelerate. It then goes away once I get above 2.5K rpm.

A similar thing happens in other gears, but not as bad. 5th gear doesn't get it at all.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks,
Chris

video might help, metallic swish isnt exactly a great reference and can honestly be anything in the drivetrain

the funny thing about the FD is they designed the drivetrain to be extremely rigid...and because of this, noise tends to travel up and down it tricking you into thinking its coming from one place when its somewere else

for example i heard a metal whine in my trans that kepts getting worse and worse, everyone that heard it swore it was the trans, myself included...so i swap the trans...its still there..as it turns out the idiot PO had the diff rebuilt and they set the backlash wrong so the ring and pinion chewed eachother up

had it been a regular car without a ppf i would have heard it in the rear and not the trans

depending on the noise it might be the same thing
