We are gonna assume FD since you did not state that. Please do if you ask questions.it makes replies pop up quicker if people know what they are dealing with.
"How should you decide"?..
#1: look in your Budget.!!.(That is the Big factor!)
It's really personal preference and power goals, how far you want to go with the car,how long you intend on having it.What are your intentions for the car?..etc.
The majority seem to go with Big Single setups.

Single has opportunity for bigger power down the road but more turbo lag, I'd prefer to do a twin setup if it was me though for a smoother powerband.

Single or you can be like jay z I got 99 vacumns but the bit** ain't one. Twins are harder to make reliable and very temperamental. Now and days single turbo lag is not much of a concern....Its all about combination and tuning. I've had single turbo rx7 made full boost at 3500 and 17 lbs on a free rev? Where's the lag on that gt35. I'm just saying

I also agree once you go single you will never go back to twin turbos. Make sure you get a good manifold because exhuast leaks suck.

Just took my single off this weekend and put the twins back on. Why?

Because the single turbo wasnt done 100% right by the previous owner. Also due to where i drive.

It really depends what your after.
The single turbo was fun. ALOT of fun. came on boost, and enjoy keeping her in a straight line! Was pushing bit under 400rwhp with it. Problem is, the lag was rediculous (T04S/56 turbo with a 1.15 rear) for where i drive. My car is a daily, and driving down twisty roads to and from work made me forever change gears to be on boost. Engine bay heat was another pain to control for the single, due to the way the kit was fitted/components used.

The car, previously with stuffed parallel twins only made 260rwhp on a conservative tune, but still managed a 12.7 down the quarter which i find pretty impressive. I now have ceramic coated parallel twins that have been freshened up, along with more supporting mods, so i cant see why 350rwhp daily cant be seen out of her. For me, this is more than enough to get into some trouble with.

I will go back to the single one day, but another 5K will need to be dropped onto the single setup to get it to my standards.

As for your manifold question, i was using a 40mm steampipe manifold made by SDR down here, with a V-band Tial external gate.

In short, it depends on what your after. I want to see how far I can push the lil twins!

The two turbos tend to create a lot of heat in the engine bay and at least in Florida single is the way to go. If you dont want a lot of turbo lag dont go with a big turbo. Waiting for power sucks. Do your research on what turbo to get the plus side of the twins is that the power does come on quickly due to the fact the spool fast. Many single turbos now and days can spool up pretty close to as fast as a twin setup. Single turbos have come a long way.

If you have to stay emissions compliant twins are a much easier way to go. If not a small single should be a whole lot less trouble to deal with long term.
