shutter valve or a hose leak
The symptoms are back fire, rough idle, choke won't stay on, and the holes in the air filter are taking in air! I did some research on this but I am getting mixed answers. some people say its the shutter valve other people say its the anti-after burn to intake manifold hose leaking. I am lost can anyone help please!

The hose that was mentioned is located on the passenger's side of the engine bay, right by the firewall. This can be inspected for leaks.
For the rest of it, I would remove the air filter housing completely then plug all vacuum lines that originally plugged into it. Then try it again to see if anything has changed. Post back with results.

I've been looking at this to I have a bad idle and the hole in the air cleaner is sucking mad air and it only makes a horn noise sometimes. Ive looked at a lot of posts about this and am going to try some of the posted suggestions as well here soon. Is it bad for your engine by any means if I block of the hole that's sucking mad air or what?

When I first got my car, I ran with all vacuum lines to the filter housing disconnected and plugged. Seemed to have no adverse effect.
If the shutter valve is the problem, then find the arm that controls it's movement and wire it so that it is open full time. Either that, or pull the carb and remove it the right way.

Hmm I'm fixing my wipers right now there seized up badly for about 6 months now and havent thought much about this shutter valve problem but if it's easily to wire it open all the time how would I go abbot that? Or is there already a post about it

Alright i got the problem down but i still have some issues. First i was really thinking abut why there were so many valves that weren't working or the choke, so i check the manual. After checking the manual i found a electrical leads that lead to the choke and the vacuum pump so i checked the fuses. End up being the engine fuse.
Picture of the fuse on the diagram that was out:
The fuse fixed the two small vacuum hole in the intake manifold and it finally held the choke on and working! The only hole left that is still sucking in air is the large one. I don"t know if i should plug it or should i leave it alone i mean the car is running ok, but i still have the backfire issue.
Picture of the hole that still sucking in air:
The next issue i have is the EGR Solenoid Valve (gray) is snapped off on the top of the tube area. I don't know if this is the reason why i still have backfire but its taking in air. Is there a way to connect the tube back on or do i really have to replace the hole thing?

My advice would be to plug both of those lines. If it runs worse afterwards, then unplug them and go back to the drawing board.
Trying to keep each one of those thousands of emissions components working correctly after decades of abuse is nearly impossible. I pulled everything that wasn't needed to run the car years ago and never looked back. Smartest thing I ever did.
