shielded aircraft wire?
I have a 93 rx7 and I am going to be rewiring the main engine harness do to the old stock wire being fried from 104,000 miles of use.
I have been planing on going to a Megasquirt v3.
I have read a lot about people having trouble with signal noise, would something like this help? http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...shieldwire.php

Most automotive wire is fine strand for ease of installation, I dont think you'd want to fight with shielded aircraft cable!! As for the signal noise, if its not a bad ground somewhere then your local car audio shop should have a filter that would work . . .if thats the noise you're talkin about!!!

Personally i dont like the megasquirt, it works, I am not saying that, just alot of trouble to get it to work properly.
Anyhow, the problem with noise is more in the ignition pickups, so you can use sheilded 18g mic wire for each of the CAS. You can get this stuff at radio shack for about 12 bucks for 50ft. Also on the ignition, you may want to use a sheilded wire on the ground side of the coil.
If you are going thru all the trouble to rewire it, then shorten the length of wire from the ignitor to the coils.
Right now the ECU sends a signal to the ignitor on the driver side fender, then it sends a signal back to the coils but it goes a long way to get there. So most people make new wires to go directly to the coil packs, the power wire can stay the same or you can relocated it also.
Hope this helps

That's pricy stuff. Go with any braided wire that is the correct gauge and you should be fine. Why if you have an FD would you bother messing around with megasquirt? I know Ill get flamed by the megasquirt guys. Ive messed around with it and though it wasn't worth it. The problem with systems like the PFC is that they use the stock harness, a definite weakness.

Hey thanks for the help guys, Rx7 Nut13b especially.
Meric I am going with megasquirt because I like the fact that it is completely DIY and I love learning every thing that I can about anything.
Unfortunately this is going to be a long project with the economy in its current state.
