Running rich, help!

...I've just got myself a nice little project car, FD3 TypeR twin Turbo.

The car was modified by one of the previous owners with the following items:

Cat Back Exhaust
HKS induction kit
Piggyback ECU

I'm guessing the ECU mod could be the main contender for the cause of the problems, but could it be a sensor?

Can i simply disconnect the ECU wires ti get fuel / air mix back to stock?

Any suggestions would be great!

The piggyback ecu will almost certainly have fuel control. How do you know you're running rich anyway? Do you have a wideband air/fuel gauge that you can monitor under full throttle? RX7s run on the rich side with stock maps, and tuning a little rich will keep the motor form blowing under boost.

Find out what the fuel controller is and read up on tuning with it. Unless the car is having major issues, I wouldn't suggest playing with the settings just yet. You'd want to do that at a dyno anyway.

do you have error codes, check engine light?

putting the stock ecu back in will help with diagnostics little bit but start checking the usual things, like vacuum leaks, map sensor, engine compression, injectors.
