Riddle me this! Chasing phatoms, 100's of issues.
Okay, here we go.
I have a 93' Touring 5 spd. It has been through H-E-double L and back it seems. It's a crazy story, and I happened to find the previous builder, two previous owners and 10 years of history along with it. All by coincidence.
So, I bought the car from a dealer. It ran super rich it seemed and had tons of warning lights on. It started with starting fluid relatively easily and there was a bit of black smoke coming out the back. It ran.
Then I had it towed home. It wouldn't start, battery then died.
Hooked it up to my Nissan, killed my Nissan's battery too.
Hooked it up to a neighbors Mitsubishi, didn't start.
Added fresh gas out of desperation and it fired right up.
Pulled car into my garage (still open) and let it run for about 20 minutes to warm up so I wouldn't flood it. It was summer and it read warm according to the temp gauge and then I shut it off. It stank the whole garage up and was wreaking of richness everywhere.
Then I went to start it the next day, nothing.
Figured I flooded it, went through the simple deflood of full throttle and turning the key. No start.
Pulled plugs, cleaned them, turned key with fuel pump disconnected, lots of gas smell came out. Added a little ATF, installed everything, no start, no fire, nothing.
Checked wiring harness, TONS of issues, and found it was destroyed from big wheels. Replaced harness with one from a previous working car that was junked.
Most of the warning lights and random junk went away now. But still no start, no fire, nothing.
Checked for spark, good.
Checked for fuel, seemed rich and that it may have been flooding. Deflooded throughly again.
Checked for timing, CAS dead on.
Tried adding starting fluid to the mix. Nothing.
Deflooded (plugs out, 20 seconds turning, fuel pump disconnected).
Tried starting fluid with no fuel pump. NOTHING!!!
Checked spark again, spark was firing strong. Check timing again, was dead on still.
Weds: Filled gas tank up with 7 gallons of new fuel, premium of course, just out of sheer frustration.
All of a sudden, I got a little sputtering! It would fire a little, maybe once every 5 revolutions but never start.
Tried for an hour of on and off (giving the starter breaks), and nothing.
Lots of deflooding as a precaution.
Installed HKS PFC and set pulse widths to spec. Little sputtering and it almost ran. Played around with it more, and it just got worse.
Returned to spec, now it wouldn't start. Nothing.
Removed PFC, sputtering, no starting. Gave up.
Thurs (today): So, I went back, tried to start it for fun to hear some putting, but nothing. No firing, no hitting, nothing again.
??? So, just as a guess, I filled it up with coolant. I found that the coolant was low from the plastic overflow tank leaking everywhere. Not the AST, but the overflow was leaking and pulling coolant out of the radiator. I patched it up, topped it off and then tried it again.
Firing again! This time it didn't smell rich at all, it actually smelled like exhaust. However, the car didn't start.
So, figuring I had something, I was happy.
I tried more starting fluid, no fire, no start, nothing.
Deflood throughly. Nothing.
Check spark, NOTHING!!! No leading spark, no trailing spark. Go figure.
Now I could hear a hissing sound right around where the fuel injectors were. Sounds like it might be leaking.
I disconnected the fuel pump relay and it of course stopped. Then I plugged it in and NOTHING!!
So, I got a new relay and then the hissing came back and was twice as loud.
The fuel pump never shuts off, so I assume it's leaking from one of the injectors now
Then, while looking at the engine (literally), the injectors started ticking by themselves. "What?!" I thought I was going mental, but they sat there and ticked and ticked, until I turned the key off. Key back on, no ticking, only hissing again.
So, I replaced the coolant temp sensor because I was mad.
Then it fired again! WHY DID THE SPARK COME BACK?!!?!?
Then no putting. Checked spark, gone again. Trailing and leading. Checked connections and grounds. Reground some grounds, no change.
Tried having a friend crank it over, no fire.
Cleaned off all contact points and connectors, no fire. Still no spark from trailing or leading. Yes, I know, three coils, none getting spark.
I checked the CAS, it was good (had a tester).
Checked ECU, and it all wires had continuity to the ECU.
Tried installing HKS module again, and nothing.
I don't get it!!!
I hate my car so much, I am so frustrated and lost with this. If anyone has any idea what's going on, please help me. I am going to part this car out if it doesn't run in a few days. I am so frustrated!!

(Solved).
So, I had swapped a good motor and coilpack in before the new harness went it. Then after the harness swap I checked the coilpack and it was melted along with it's respective harness. So, a new coil and coil harness went it and BOOM, it works now.
Except for that the AST is now leaking....
