WA Rich, Lean or Ignition?????

Hey guys, I recently purchased a Mazzone sand rail that has a 13b equipped with a blow through turbo and a Weber carb. I am having problems with it misfiring when I rev it past 4000 and can't get it to rev past 5500. It also has a rough idle. I replaced all of the plugs, wires, cap & rotor hoping this would solve the problem, however had no luck. Before I did this, I found the previous owner had the leading & trailing plugs switched in the block. Would it do this if the trailing side wasn't working? Could the leading & trailing coils be reversed? The exhaust smells rich but sounds like it's going lean...........I'm totally new to the Wankel so any help would be appreciated!!!

Uh oh...if the leading and trailings were reverse and the car run under boost, it's time for a compression test before you go any further. Reversing L & T will cause the trailing plugs to fire way early, like advancing the timing 60 degrees.

If compression checks out OK, then it's likely a fuel problem. And that's about all I can help with because I don't do carbs and I certainly wouldn't touch anything as twitchy as a blow through turbo setup.

Sorry if I didn't word that right........The Leading side had Trailing plugs in them & vise versa........ A little more info about the set-up - It has MSD 6-AL boxes for each side & I pre-mix the fuel 80:1 with 2-stroke oil............

I think I may have figured it out.......

I finally had some time to spend with the Wankel.........found out that the Trailing side is not firing and the MSD for that side is getting warmer than the one for the Leading side. No power to the coil of the Trailing. Now I have some figuring out to do. My guess is that the MSD box went **** up!

80 to 1 is way to much ratio.
that is like 2oz per gallon, and at that ratio it can foul plugs up.Then it runs like crap.
Cut back on the 2 stroke.
Either dilute the gas you have in by adding straight gas or put in like 3 oz per gallon, just to see if it clears things up.
Also try running all 9's(trailing plugs Bur9eq) on the engine.

The plug mix up is common and shouldn't cause too much of an issue.

A failed trailing ignition also won't stop the engine from revving up and making power. Trailing is much like a "cleanup", just to burn that last little bit of fuel stuck at the rear of the working chamber.

Change the fuel filter if you haven't recently.

Make sure that the routing of the plug and coil wires is correct. These can get switched around very easily during a typical tuneup, then start causing pinging and breakup at higher rpms. It will idle pretty funny too.

Good luck...

SORRY.NOTE/Correction!:.I meant 3 oz of 2 stroke for FIVE gallons of gas.!!!
I chased a bad idling/running engine and found the culprit to be too Much 2 stroke and I was adding 5-6 oz for 5 gallons.the plugs were fouled.I installed a new set and added gas to compensate the Ratio, and it cleared things up.

So 80:1 is too rich??? I have inspected the plugs and they are burning pretty clean. Does it make a difference that I don't have a OMP????
