Rear end shudder over bumps
Well... It's an 83 RX7 with the majority of suspension bushings/springs/shocks replaced. Only bushings that are original are the ones in the diagonal bar over the axle (watts bar?). When going over choppy roads the car seems to be rather unsettled in the rear... body has 157k on it.
Or am I just experiencing the joy of a live axle in a vintage lightweight car?

how long has this been happening? or is the problem just occuring. how big are your rims and tires? Ive ridden in older lightweight cars with upgraded entry level suspension, most of them are uncomfortable when drivin on a messed up road.

Sounds familiar..Mine has a shudder when the body twists or I go over a bump or down a dip. Like something rubbing or bottoming out. I've been told the transmission mount is so toast that its causing the drive shaft to hit the body or something..I haven't checked it out. But maybe were talking about two different things.

Tires and rims are stock. I have the aluminum/blacked out star looking things with some sort of mastercraft tires.
I ordered the heavy duty mount and all new urethane pieces for the watts linkage and anything else that didn't look like it had been replaced yet. Cheap 'assurance' says I...
As an aside, I do have to say that this car is pretty enjoyable to work on... everything is logical and straightforward electrically, and it's almost British in it's personality... except it doesn't leave you stranded in an instant for no apparent reason!!! I was looking at MGB's and TR6's when this car came along - I made the right choice!

unless it's really severe, it sounds like just the joys of an older car. You might try getting an alignment if everything under there looks ok. poor alignment could cause it to get a bit twitchy.

I spoke to the previous owner a few days ago about it and he said it was the watts linkage - a couple of the bushings are worn. Also has a bent lower 4-link rod, but it's not too severe, so I'm betting it's just the linkage bushings. Bushings for the tension rods in the front are also coming, then a steering box adjustment before realignment.
