over fueling problem with 1st gen RX-7
hi there everybody, I just purchased an 84' rx7 with the 1.1 Rotary engine a few days ago, I am a first time owner of a rotary engine, but am a proud owner of two other mazda's as well! I am having a problem with it over fueling I believe. I am able to get it to start up and run, but for the most part wether or not i push the choke in all the way or leave it out when its cold it doesnt want to stay running. When I try to give it gas sometimes it kind of chokes out for a second or two and other times it just dies out. If I am lucky enough to get it to warm up and sort of run o.k. and drive it down the road eventually it starts to do the same thing and it dies out. The exhaust smells of too much fuel and there is fuel in the gas as well, maybe from flooding it i am not sure. There is no dash lights on and it isnt overheating or anything. I got it to warm up one time and the motor sounded great. It has 152k miles on it. I am just wondering if anybody had any recommendations as to what the problem could be? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

sounds like a fuel/carby issue
first check the float levels with the ignition turned on, they should be around the half way mark in each sight glass (these are on front and back sides of the carby).
if that's ok remove the blue air filter cover, and try to start the engine while opening the throttle by hand (don't use the choke). you could have a blocked fuel passage on one side, make sure there is a fairly equal spray coming out of the fuel nozzles when looking down the smaller two out of four barrels.
more things to check as well but that's a start at least
