FL North Florida Greeting

Hello- I am the proud owner of a 1984 RX7. It JUST crossed the 100,000 mile line. I am a daily user of the car.
I have recently been having issues with the car and have been told by the mechanic I have been using here that they no longer know what the problem is in the motor.
The issue? I have low power in 1st and 2nd gear. Pedal to the floor and she sputters. Once I get some speed it acts fine. The idle is jumpy. The latest solution is to put a new carb on her. "That is a $700 cost and may not fix it".. is what I am told.
So... Does anyone have experience with an issue like this or know a mechanic in the Jacksonville area that might know their RX7's? Thanks!!

Check your fuel filter first. Replace it if it has a layer of dirt on it, period.

Now, I'm not sure how you've managed to live in JAX, FL and not see a plethora of RX-7 activity. Jacksonville is supposed to be a hotbed of rotary mechanics, gearheads and techs. The trick is finding one who won't disappear with your car or parts for your car.

$700 for a carb? Get one from Sterling instead and do the swap yourself. Take lots of pictures as you go along.

Mechanics say what?

If my Mechanic said he didnt know exactly what was wrong with my car but wanted me to spend more money on a possible fix i would find a new mechanic. Its his job to find the problems and tell you what the guaranteed fix is. If he is wrong then he has to cover his loss. There alot of shops that take RX7s in that do not even have a clue about how they are diferent from a standard engine.
