No spark on the trailing side?? Plz help orlando fl
hey guys sorry to be a pain butt, I was hoping some one could help me out with a problem I just discovered... who knows how long its been going on... lol.
i have a 1980 sa 12a with a newer electronic distributor has the ignitors for leading and trailing and such. ok heres what i have
http://www.smbaker.com/sand-rail/maz...-rotary-engine
msd6 al box hooked up to , 2/ 60k volt coils rigged up for waste spark. and instead of cutting up the good ignitor i had. i made a connector for the plug on the distributor magnetic pick up sensor.
and a 3rd coil of course a high voltage 60k coil as well. running the trailing side.
i was having really bad power issues before. like the car had no ballz wanted to stall and crap. so i got the new coils msd and switched over to direct fire n stuff. cauz i tested the coils and they were borderline dead meat.
started the car up and it ran 1000 times better... I even went to the track like this lol. but i kept thinking to my self this thing should be faster at the top end when i hit high rpms.. so i started checking things and found that this frickin thing has been just running on the leading plugs HAHAH
i have no spark at all. not from the coil , not from the distributor, not to the plugs. something is wrong.
i switched out the ignitor in the trailing position for the good one i took off from the leading side. are they the same?? or interchangeable?? i tried it and still have no spark soooo im like uhhhh
i have the two wires from the magnetic pick up sensor hooked up one on the pos terminal on on the neg.. i have a power wire switched battery voltage on the pos terminal. and ive tried running it with and with out a ground wire on the neg terminal, cauz some one told me that i needed a ground on the neg side of the coil , wasnt sure if this was right...???????? still no spark... wtf lol can some one shed some light on this for me.???

both ignitors are the same to prove this just look at the part number both are the j-109 ignitors so if it was working before that's not your problem. If its a new coil that's probably not your problem either but u could probably do a quick check by switching it with one of the other coils running your leading plugs that you know works. if all is good there check that your for sure hooked up the same way it was originally. if that's all fine and dandy check ur spark plugs and make sure they work even if there brand new i spent about two weeks trying to fix the carb on my motorcycle just to find the brand new ngk spark plug was a dud. spark plugs coils the works are good may be ur distributer is toast or ur plug wires/ wires from ur distributer to the coil could be toast too hope that helps.
