Need help learning about the engine bay of an FC
Hey there, I have an 88 RX7 GXL and I'm trying to get it running again. I don't know much about cars but I'm slowly learning. I don't know much about the engine bay and all the parts in it.
I saw a "post pics of your engine bay" thread in the FB area, but not really for FCs. Also, I just really don't know what everything is inside the engine bay.
I'm going to put up some pictures I took of it earlier this afternoon. Hopefully someone can help me learn what everything is. Maybe someone could link me to something? I don't have my hands on a manual yet Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I do know that I need the following:
- oil cooler
- oil cooler lines
- radiator
- radiator hoses
- vacuum lines
- new belts
I know it's missing the radiator fan. It's currently sitting in the passenger seat. Not quite sure how to connect it back on, but I'll probably worry about it a bit later.
I know that this is the crank angle sensor. Not sure how to connect it. Currently I just set it into that hole.
Here's a pic of the radiator. The guy I bought the FC from said they recently put it in, but looks like they didn't pay too much attention to it since it's pretty beat up. Especially on one side.
Hopefully I can get a lot of input and info before I can get the manual. No idea when I'll be able to get it.

Download a free factory service manual at one of the links in the 2nd gen FAQ. You might also want to pick up a Haynes manual which has pictures that may be helpful. Looks like you have a job ahead of you since there are LOTS of things missing.
Do yourself a favor and do a simple compression test before spending a lot of time and money trying to put things back together. If you have low compression in any rotor face, rebuilding the engine or purchasing a reman engine will be required. Think a couple of thousand dollars at least. Search the forum for information on how to do a simple compression test using a conventional compression tester. Of course, it would be preferrable to have a proper compression test done by a rotary tech ($60-$80), but you can get a general idea of engine health using the simple method.
EDIT: Here's a link to the FSM

You'll need to set the CAS properly before just bolting it in. The FSM or a haynes manual can tell you how to do this.
Also, you'll need the stock fan shroud. And the stock clutch fan bolts onto the 4 studs on the water pump pulley.
