My Dream setup.

Hi guys,

First post, so please go gentel.

My dream setup for my 1980 Rx7.
The car is a "showcar" and i like rowdy and loud, so that does not play into factor.

13b REW Half bridge
48/51 IDA
Big port exhaust manifold

I don't want to use all my money, so i was wondering if i can use my 12a suff like the ignitionsystem ECU etc.? I know that i can use my 12a front plate, but how does the igntion work with this?
I also know that i have to use the mazda rx7 gsl se oil pan. Also front mount.

What do you guys think? Thank you.

welcome to the board.

i guess the simple answer is yes. you can use the distributor to run the engine, the problem is putting the right combination of parts together.

i assume that you meant to say front cover as opposed to front "plate". you will need to make your old front cover fit (or try to find an SE front cover because of the oil pan bolt pattern). it lines up pretty close, but nor perfectly. many people have done it though, so you should be fine. you will also nee to modify your mounting bracket or have on made if its too costly import the RB one.

you will need put your timing gear in the REW front stack. the SE oil pan will not bolt to the REW rear side housing, and i'm not sure how close the shape is between the two either. however, i can check it out this coming weekend, if you want. the 12A pickup tube should work, but i can't remember if it is the same as the one for the SE.

you can probably convert to your 12A water pump, but you might need to swap the 12A studs to the REW front side housing. obviously the main pulley needs to be swapped for 12A as well. i'm not sure how else it would work. pulley alignment may or may not be an issue with your alternator.
