kyb vs. godspeed
i have an 87 na rx7 turbo swap by myself still going through the process now im on to the ride part of the car. the car is going to be used for drifting, not hard core stuff just around on the streets and a little bit of drag racing. ride quality doesnt matter im 18 so i can take the abuse of stiff springs. but Indiana roads arent the best and me living kinda in the country we dont have the smoothest roads but you just dont drive stupid down them and you will be fine. the car is going to be body kitted on 17 inch wheels my tires are 245 45 17 so it now leads me to my question which would be better kyb or godspeed coilovers i would also consider a used set of coilovers. looking to spend around 700

If possible search around for PBM Coilovers, from what iv'e seen and read,
best doller value and versatillity: pretty well low as she will go..
Parts by Max
2011 FC RX7 MAX Competition Coilovers 10/8 KG ~ IN STOCK NOW $1,000.00
Pretty well brand new, never hear complaints.
If I didn't have HKS Hyper Max, I would use these.

With that said, I know a dude who ran Megan coilovers on his Sr20 S13 drifter... and loved them because they did what he wanted them too; they were cheap, took away body roll, and lowered the car. He didn't care about how long they would last, how harsh the ride was, how pretty they looked, etc. etc.. If you get some cheap coilovers and they do what you expected, then chances are you will be happy with your purchase.
Honestly the best thing you can do is read TONS and TONS of reviews from different car forums from various places; and if you can, take different coilovers for a test drive and see how you like 'em. For instance, I was skeptical about Stance coilovers myself, until my buddy let me take his 300whp FC for a spin.. Now I know that Stance are decent coilovers

Man this thread is a month long haha.
I'll tell you what, get some KYBs, some lowering springs, and you will be good to go. The handling that setup will provide you is probably more than you have the skill for anyways. By the time you have learned to push that car to it's limits and need an upgrade, you will probably have more money saved up for some decent coils. Godspeed is junk.

I played around with some Godspeed parts on my WRX and I can honestly say that most of it is pretty crappy. Their intercooler kits aren't too bad, except for a some small fitment issues. Everything is close to cheap junk.

When you are young, and obviously on a budget because you are looking for cheap or used coilovers... all of which will be garbage.. I highly doubt you will ever come close to pushing a car to it's limits, whether it be stock or modified. The absolute best bang for your buck right now will be some aftermarket shocks, and some lowering springs. If you go out there, and buy some cheap or used coilovers, you're gonna throw them on, then go out and start learning on a car with handling characteristics that will quite possibly be poorer than stock.
HOWEVER, if money is not an issue, then buy all means by some nice expensive coilovers. Will you be able to push them to their limits within 6 months or a year? Doubtful, but doesn't mean you can't try. What I am saying though.. if money is a factor, shocks and springs will PERFORM better than these cheap garbage coilovers. You'll also learn easier too because you won't have as many crappy characteristics and variables in the mix. From there for some more tweakage you can do adjustable camber/caster plates, or adjustable sway bars... etc. etc..
My two cents
Good luck on your purchase though, if you are REAAAALLY set on coilovers, I recommend Stance GR Pros... they don't break the bank, they have a decent reputation, and they have a nice warranty.

There's nothing wrong with upgrading from stock. But if you're just starting out in autocross (my only experience), you probably don't have the skill level to even match a stock car in good condition. I'm sure the same goes for drifting.
If anything, getting coilovers with ride height adjustment and adjustable damping just over complicates things for a beginner that is trying to learn the driving basics. Save the tuning for later once you've mastered the basics of whatever driving skill you're into.
