KYB AGX struts

First off... I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried the KYB AGX struts and if they would recommend them...

Second of all... My wheel bearings are bad in my front wheels... My question is... Is a wheel bearing a wheel bearing, example... is a $1.00 wheel bearing just the same as a $40.00 wheel bearing... if not... What are some good brand name wheel bearings (maybe high performance?) that someone would recommend?

There was no reason to bump your thread, it just got approved by me about 2hrs ago.

KYB AGX's are good struts to use. I had them on all 4 on my S4 SE over 4 years ago, and I liked them. KYB AGX's and Tokico Illumina's are the most commonly used struts for FC's.

1. have a set KYB AGX struts with a set of Tein springs on my 91 FC right now, they work just fine.

2. What is your wheel bearing doing? is it just loose or is it making noise?
If it's just loose you can tighten it rather easily.

Hey man - if you want a decent deal on a new set of KYB GR-2s - I have a brand new set. I used these on my previous daily driver and they were very good.

AGXs are awesome struts. I work at Les Schwab as an alignment tech. I have installed a hundred of them, and recommend them to anyone that comes in looking for performance. The GR-2s are great struts as well however I dont think they perform in a performance position as well as AGX. As far as your bearing, there are really no bearings that are better then the other per say, however if its making noise on you.....be sure you replace the bearing cone AND the cup.

i had a set of AGX's on my turbo II with tanabe springs and cusco front camber plates. it handled awsome and i could notice a differance when adjusting the struts. they are no coilovers. but for the cost you cant get any better. and im actualy selling my agx/tanabe/cusco set up. "i had to upgrade for full track set up" PM me if your interested.

I have KYB AGX with RSR Race springs.
I always had them on a very hard setting, because I thought it would be better.
Then I set them to 1 front and 2 rear (nearly softest) and it feels amazing now.
SO much better,....it's still not soft, but it feels like a good suspension on a new sportscar now.

Make sure the wheel bearing(s) really do need replacment before you launch into that since it is not a trivial operation. Go to the site at the link below for a tech article on how to do that and you will see what I mean.

Gr-2's are pretty much oem replacement struts.

Nothing special about them at all. Atleast you can adjust the agx's to suit your needs and they aren't THAT much more. I had them in the rear of my eclipse to reduce that wonderful fwd launch ***-squat. They were a treat.

On a side note, what's the slammability on the agx's on an fc given you cut the bump stops in half beforehand? 2.5-3" without terribly screwing up suspension travel?

You could tighten your bearings up to get rid of the play but there could be a chance that damage has already been done. I'd replace the bearings/races/cones like the op said.

Correct that the GR-2s are as good as the OEM parts. For 90% of the cars out there the stock OEM parts are more than good enough. Plus you can get mine for a good price ! I do have Tein Flex coil overs on my more serious car though - but that actually sees action other than just spirited street driving.

About 1" is the limit if you want the car to handle. More then that and negative camber goes out of control to ridiculous levels. Not only that but it looks like every ricer CRX out there.

I can't even imagine an FC with a 2.5" to 3" drop. You'd need camber plates at the minimum, have almost no suspension travel left, never be able to put a jack under it, curbs would damage the underbody and you'd have a hard time clearing speed bumps. Also it would look very stupid.
