OR JDM 320mm race steering wheel install

Hi guys,

I am thinking about purchasing this steering wheel, but I don't know too much about aftermarket steering wheels. I have a 88 FC convertible, and the steering wheel I am looking at is 6 bolts and made by JDM. the link is here

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

1) It seems pretty cheap so do you guys have any suggestions on how good this type of steering wheels are?
2) will installing aftermarket steering wheel mess up the turn signal and such?
3) is it safe to install it by myself (not much experience on this) ? or just find a tuning shop to do it for me?

thanks a lot

David

I have an eBay steering wheel right now, it's 350mm because the 320mm is too small and requires fair bit of force to turn even with power steering.

1) Most of the steering wheels sold on eBay are very similar; quality is only decent enough to not make you upset about it, but it's not as good as it seems in the pictures. It's good to have in the beginning if you have low budget and would like to reduce the OEM 370mm steering wheel.
2) Yup, at least I would say so for the eBay ones. I tried two different eBay steering wheel on my current FC and a celica I used to drive before.
3) It safe to install by yourself, I believe there are installation guides on the forum you can search for. What you need is screwdrivers to take off the steering wheel colum, bolt wrench to take off the nut that's holding the steering wheel together. Most suggest using a steering-wheel wrench so that you won't bump your face when pulling off the OEM steering wheel, it's optional.

Hello David,

You will need an adapter hub. This allows the factory "spline" mount for the OEM steering wheel, to mount to most 6 bolt aftermarket wheels. I have removed a number of ebay wheels, just dont like the feel (just my personal opinion.) The ebay ones are cheaply made, fade + wear quickly. I would find a used Momo/Sparco wheel +hub.

You should pop down in to the "NW Section". If you need assistance installing this, give me a PM and you can swing by my shop. Its a 5 minute job with a little guidance and the right tools.

What's your budget? name brand goes to couple hundred depending on what you get.

If you're concerned with budget, what you could do is source for a used steering wheel, and get a hub that fits through eBay (most aftermarket ones are 6 holes).

Brand name steering wheel most commonly selected/seen are: Nardi, Personal, Momo, Sparco, Grant, NRG.

Password JDM carries Nardi and Personal steering wheels only, no hubs for our 7's: www.passwordjdm.com

Most other name brand should be able to be sourced from the local authorized dealers, just ask around.
