How much money/work to change the apex seals?

First off, I know it has to do with the apex seals, car burns oil on start ups for a good 2 mins or so then goes away. Would it be cheaper to just swap in a 13B turbo or cheaper to replace the seals, the 13B is in actually great condition other than the apex seals.

Noisebomb I think you will find that apex seals are for compression and the hard seals with o ring ( 2 on each side of each rotor are for oil control ) It seems to be the same amount of work to do internal repair weather just cleaning and using old parts or cleaning and using new parts takes about the same amount . Do you ever need to add coolant ? Go here and download what ever fsm you need for your car and do some reading to get acquainted with how things work inside the little engine . rebuild kits run $500-1000+, depending on series and condition of your parts inside the engine.

there is no point tearing the engine apart to put it back all greasy and carboned up so any rebuilder will sell you a rebuild to repair it unless you do it yourself, the labor is actually half the cost of an overhaul.

First off, apex seals have nothing to do with burning oil. From your post You should do as gerald suggested and have any engine work done by a professional.

I think there are stickys in the 2nd Gen. section that have information on turbo swaps which might give you an idea of what's involved.

Worn oil control rings (if the smoke smells of oil). Replace 1 qt of oil with Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. You may find that that completely eliminates the issue.

Leaking fuel injector (if smoke smells of fuel). Send out of cleaning/repair.

Good luck.
