Hi, I did a ls1 engine swap in my 89 rx7 convertible about 2 years ago. What a rocket ship. You can get a kit from "granny's speed shop" for any type conversion you want. I bought a wrecked 02 Trans Am with the ls1 and 4l60e auto trans. I had everthing I needed including the computer and wiring. The swap isn't too difficult and grannys can answer most tech questions. If you do it you will love it. Good luck If you need to ask questions call me at 270 826-7024

I am also in the process of installing a V6 chevy into my 90 vert. just finally sold rotormotor and trans. outta it for 400, that only took over a year to sell that crap- apparently, there is no demand for used rotary engines on this site, let alone a trans.(you would think somebody would inquire) also, would like to ask you about wiring on your 89, I'll call you, thanks. I quite like the idea of American muscle + Japanese handling.

Actually they are a good match. Especially the FD with an LS1. Dont knock it so hard until you have actually driven one. Stock LS puts out solid power and can take a beating with minimal maintenance.

The more fd's or rotary cars in general swap a V8 or other engines, the more valuable "your" rotary car becomes! I myself have 2 FD's, one is currently being swapped for an LS2 motor and the other one is still a rotary for now but I plan on swapping that to a reliable, powerful, cheap and dependable good ol V8 too...

I agree , its like not being happy with what u have....lots of insecure rotary owners goto a v8 because they can't work with what it came with.

Don't matter how big it is if you don't know how to use it.

Lol

So then why is having a v8 that can make over 1000 HP so important, it really boggles me as to why people think v8s are such a great choice, rx7s are rx7s because they have a rotary engine.

I'm sure you're well aware that rx7s have a small engine, its plenty efficient, a v8 is actually less efficient.

If there was a 350 cubic inch rotary, it would make a v8 look like its nothing.

I'm reading this and I feel like there's a bunch of kids replying to this thread! It is what it is, some people like rotary and don't mind rebuilding the motor every year and the people that went and swapped a V8 just wanted something else that's more reliable but plenty powerful...
Why bash the V8 (American) version of the swap? 2jz, 1jz, RB, sr20, I bet if it were one of those engine you rotards would like it.
There's nothing you hardcore rotary people can do and this discussion have been done over and over and over again! Don't hate and just appreciate!

You don't have to rebuild every year unless you're doing something wrong.

Funny you say don't hate, when you're obviously hating on rotaries.

Sorry but I just think a rx7 with an ls1 is a poor mans corvette.

People with vettes would be just as offended if people were dropping v12 lambo engines in them.

Also fyi, not a kid I'm 30 years old, I think v8s belong in muscle cars not rx7s.

If you think what you have is too small and can't perform adequately, you probably don't know how to use it.

Hahaha

It did sound like I'm hating huh! but seriously I don't hate rotaries I'm just not fond of rebuilding it after 10-20 k miles and spending a lot of $$$$, and let alone finding a reputable shop to do it, you know what i'm talking about. I love the body of the FD's and I bought 2 because of it not because of the 13B TT......You obviously read my post but you didn't mention anything about the other engines being swapped in replacement of the rotary. I just think that there's a general "dislike" for V8 american engines being swapped...I am not a rotary expert by any means nor have I ever had to have one rebuilt... I bought both my FD's with BLOWN ENGINES (surprise) and now both currently being swapped...I love all cars in general specially fast ones and dont care what kind of engine is in it....

I also noticed that you're going to rebuild the rotary engine in your S4....

I bought the engine blown, I'm planning on getting a turbo s4 and putting the engine in it after its been rebuilt.

I'm going to be conservative and keep the ports stock and run potentially 10-12 psi on the stock turbo, hoping for 225-250 HP at the wheels maxing out the stock turbo, which will obviously require some upgrades.

isnt it common knowledge rotory motors are bad on gas and unreliable as daily drivers unless there is a smart person behind the wheel? im pretty sure. Anyone with the know how to swap a piston engine into a car never equipped with one sounds pretty smart to me. my buddies bone stock automatic z28 ran a 12.9 down the quartermile. piston engines have years more refinement to back em up aswell. just sayn

Bone stock z28 running a 12.9 ? Sounds like BS, it'd need around 400 HP with how much of a tank those cars are ,also any car producing a high amount of power is going to get poor gas mileage that's just common sense.

Rotary engines don't have as much research and development as piston engines, however the reason I'm on here is because I love rotary engines , therefore I love rx7s, if I liked v8s I'd just be another wanna bee driving a poor man's vette/mustang

I want to be the guy pulling past your buddies z28 doing what everyone else thinks isn't possible, not what everyone considers "cool".

98 models had the best cam profile of all the ls1's. Dont belive it i dont care, facts r facts. Sounds like ur emotions are getting in the way here. Facts r facts brother! Rotory motors r cool but we all know they have limits.

Everything has a limit, and its an engine not a motor.

As far as limits, there are 3 rotors, there are 4 rotors, there's even a running 6 rotor.

There are people pushing 2 bar on a 13b making insane power, displacement means nothing it you can boost it and make 5x the power.

A motor can power itself without an electric source, an engine is run by an external electric source.

In street tune it wouldn't be practical to run 1000 Hp, I guess if that's you're perogitive you can do it but its pretty pointless other than for showing off, at wot anything with that kind of power will be very difficult to maintain control of.
