glowing plug wires from coil....

popped the hood on my seven tonight its an 85 gs. and the plug wires from the coils to the distributor are glowing blue and from the distributor all of them glow to the plugs... the car has started to have a pretty crazy idle sometimes it will be at 800 sometimes 2000 then at other times it will just slowly die. Im guessing i might have found the source of my problem. the coils are arcing some and it looks like the distributor is also arcing alittle could this be because my plug wires are bad or is there a bigger issue going on??? sorry this is probably a big time noob question but i guess thats what the new member section is for lol...

Ignition system components are high wear items. They don't last nearly as long as they would in a piston engine, 4 stroke environment. You had stated in your Intro thread that the wires were all hooked up wrong. You are, for sure, past that problem, right?

At the least, I'd replace the spark plug wires ASAP as a starting point. I'd also check to make sure you've got the right spark plugs in there. You're seeing the arcing and blue static because the resistance in the wire to the plug to the combustion chamber is much higher than simply bleeding through the wire coating. The path of least resistance is no longer the core of your wires like it should be.

Age? More than likely. If it's stock, it should've been replace a LONG time ago. Do not get your basic carbon graphite wire. Spend a little here for something that will last and has a low resistance so your coils and distributor work as efficiently as possible to jump the spark plug gap under combustion chamber pressure.
