Finally got my first RX7 and it blew up
I got a 93 rx7 on Oct 31 and it caught fire last Saturday night. The car was seemed completely unmolested and it seemed to be running fine with good compression on both rotors. 700 miles later, my primary cat catches flames as I lose all power. I'm trying to get it fixed under warranty by European Engineering near Boston. I sure hope I don't get screwed :/.

Yikes! ..sorry to hear that! I think I'll stick with carbs, after all...I wonder if a needle got stuck open since it wasn't used all the time? Let's hear from some 3rdgen guru's after they give you their condolences...

European Engineering?
You are setting yourself up to get screwed. Work with known rotary specialists that know this car and you increase the chances of a positive outcome. Work with a shop that has never seen this car and you are asking for trouble.
Are you in NY or Boston?
I have no idea how a "primary cat catches flames". Might want to clarify what the observed problem was.

I live in Watertown NY. The local Mazda dealership is going to start looking at what caused the fire on Monday. They had problems with European Engineering Sales not calling them back to O.K. their taking the car apart.

Oh boy. The dealers were pretty clueless working on these cars when they were new. They are worse now that the cars are 15 years old and the techs haven't seen one in 10 + years.
Retail Dealer pricing will also kill your wallet.
If it were me, I'd have the car towed over to a rotary specialist like IRP in Clifton, NJ or KDR in PA. It might be far but you may wind up saving a significant amount of money. You are welcome to PM me if you want to talk over the phone.
Good luck.
