FD3S Oil Leak Problem

Hiya

I have a 1992 FD3S japanese imported ( this car is my baby).
I know FD's use oil and that is not the problem i am having.
My problem is i have oil leaking down onto the exhaust piping.
Under the right side of the car, right under the drivers side (right hand drive) i can run my hand and get nothing but oil. I can't see any visble leaks though and it isn't a huge leak because it is not really drinking the oil like crazy. She sounds fine, runs great, but everytime i stop i have some white smoke coming out because of the oil hitting the exhuast. Please help me out if you can. My father was a mechanic and if he were still alive i would ask him >.<, but i know alot about v8 engines and just now learning rotary. I am a girl and don't want to take it to a mechanic without having a general idea of what it is because they will try to take advantage of me.

Thanks for everyone's help.

If you have the stock twin turbos, your leak could be from the oil return line. The gaskets are known to fail.

Basically, you are going to have to get under the car and take a look. The best idea would be to use some degreaser to clean everything off. Put it up on jack stands or a lift, then run the car and look for where the source of the oil leak is.. If it's still too hard to trace, you can usually purchase some florescent dye to put into the oil which makes it a little easier to fin the leaks.

Found the Problem but need help picking new turbos

Hiya,

So finally got my car to a great mechanic, all is well except one of my turbos is cracked open. So here I am trying to figure out what i want to replace with. I want to keep the Twin Turbo Setup, don't want to go to the single. I have a hard time figuring out what to get on websites though. My mechanic is checking OEM cost but i want to atleast put something a little better in there, this is going to be a show car not a race car or drift car though. Was looking at

http://rx7.com/store/rx7/fdturbo.html

the Efini Twin Turbo upgrade, wanted to know if anyone thinks there is better for what i am looking for, plus if they know a canadian store that can get these?

Thanks ^^

You have a crack in the turbos and the oil is leaking from it?

That would be the first time I've heard of that.

Just take care that the turbos do develop cracks in certain areas and those cracks don't cause oil leaks or performance problems. While I'm not saying your mechanic is wrong, it's an unusual diagnosis.

the crack is on both turbos and is the housing of the turbos that went bad, seen both turbos upclose and since the oil runs thru them to keep them cool, makes good since to me, plus could see the oil coming out of them. ^^ i also found out the knock sensor was leaking a bit of oil down the side of it, so going to replace it as well.

Also one thing about my mechanic he isn' making any money from the parts, i refuse to be sold parts from my mechanic, he makes money only on the repairs ^^. He fixed my sis's skyline for free too, and also he shows you everything so you can see it for yourself. So i think he is on the up and up ^^.

Interesting. I guess that answers it. Replacement turbos aren't very expensive.

As Mahjik mentioned, make sure to take the gasket thing seriously. Replace with new gaskets for the oil and coolant lines. I would also invest in new exhaust gaskets, even if they're just the Pineapple graphite ones.

Get a pictures of said cracks and post them up. If he's looking at the manifold, it's common to have cracks there which aren't necessarily a problem (in most cases). You can also purchase a good used set of stock turbos. You can typically find them for around $200-350 USD.

where are you able to get the stock oem turbos from for 250-300$? I am not really interested in boosting the power of my baby after all she is a show car, i am already investing 10k on just body and paint. I am making my own fiberglass skirts and redoing the interior myself.
