Fd 20b
ok so i have the ability to purchase a rolling chassis for a 93 fd rx7 he only wants 6k for the chassis but i figure ill talk him down to about 5k-5.5k or less. after getting that i wanted to be ambitious and put a single large turbo half-bridgeport 20b motor in there. what do you guys think? i have seen and read swaps of the 20b into the FC chassis but not very many in the FD chassis, is there a reason for this? i assume its probably because the fc has a larger engine bay, but is the fd that much smaller that it becomes a problem?
i also realize that ill have to be fabricating and acquiring A LOT of custom parts to put this engine in
- motor mounts
- intercooler and radiator piping etc
- microtech computer (to avoid any hassle)
- im sure many other parts that i cant think of right now :P (feel free to list any if they pop in your head im here to learn
)
also i was wondering since the 20b only came from the cosmos with an automatic transmission is it possible to bolt up the rx7 manual to it?
ALSO and most importantly is it even feasible to build a 20b daily driver? or should i stick to building a 23b motor? theres so many options im kinda scatter brained :/
thanks in advance for any and all help!

If you have never experienced a powerful single turbo 13B (two rotor) - then try that route first.
You can get more than enough power out of a two rotor for more than 95% of the people here.
More than enough to get you into trouble,
and more than enough for you to **** your pants.

A bridgeported 20B would basically have to drive from gas station to gas station. You're talking about a major monster. It will never pass a Ca emissions check, ever.
If it's going to be a daily driver, start with single turbo 13B. Keep the turbo moderate and upgrade the suspension and other stuff and you'll have a driveable and extremely fast car.

alright thanks guys i guess i have a little too lofty goals :P i guess ill get my 13b single turbo running first and learn more about the rotary engines before i get in over my head with a 20b. so since thats the new option what do you guys thing of a garrett ball bearing turbo with a half-bridgeport?
-fluidyne radiator
-upgraded intercooler (not sure about front mount or not there are mixed reviews from what im reading)
-upgraded fuel pump (supra or 20b)
-upgraded fuel lines rail injectors etc.
-HKS or apexi stand alone computer
-ceramic apex seals
-lower temp ngk spark plugs
-aluminum AST
-downpipe & high flow cat
-upgraded pressure plate and clutch
im sure there are some other things i am forgetting, oh a boost guage obviously, along with replacement of other guages such as water temp, oil etc...
did i forget anything major? because after that its on to suspension upgrades, coilovers here i come!

Bridgeports, half-bridgeports, peripheral ports are not streetable. Not worth the aggravation and poor driveability. Won't pass smog either. Not even close. ![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Single Turbo won't pass smog either.
The major thing you are overlooking is the 3rd gen FAQ. Read it and learn about the car before getting overly mod happy and creating a dream list of mods that don't really make sense. Link is here. READ it.

Small reminder to everyone that while "search, noob" is an appropriate response in the regular boards, we need to actually take the time to answer the questions in the New Member Tech board...I know we've seen it a million times, but if you're going to post here, then it's going to be the one millionth plus one time you reply with the answer.
The posts with the links were great, BTW. That's a good middle ground as a post.
Thanks to everyone who "plays" in the New Member Tech boards and keeps the new peeps fed with answers!
