Lift the lower edge of the shifter surround. The edge closest to the center console. It'll pop up and rotate up over the shifter. By now, most shifter boots are no longer attached to that surround, but if yours is, then you'll want to unscrew the shifter **** as well so that the boot and surround come off together.
You'll see two phillips screws now beneath the ashtray that you need to remove. With those gone, you need to pull your heater and fan ***** off. Don't use tools if you can avoid it, because it'll all get scratched. Pinch hard with your fingers and pull them both off. Once they're both off, take the 14mm nuts off that are underneath the *****.
From here, just carefully pull on the center stack and it'll pop free. It snaps into place, but it's got squishy foam around the vents, etc. that may put up a little resistance.
