FL Differential clunking noise on right rear while on free wheel drive

I noted louder noise when switched to neutral while driving on my 85 GS.
Eventually I am going to open up and change if the differential drive ring, if worn out with play. Few years ago I have changed the entire differential unit to my other 84gs to look like gsl-se.

Kindly advise if I can improvise my new GS differential with lsd ( want to keep this housing no rust at all on 8.5k mile differential housing)
Or swap take the power from Turbo II setup

Thank you.

Maybe it's just the u-joints on the driveshaft?

The GSL-SE rear will handle the power from a TII swap. Once you start upgrading the turbo, you're still fine to about 350HP as long as you don't abuse it with things like wheel hop.

I mean wheel hop. On hard launches, if the wheels hop up and down against the pavement, they transmit huge shock load to the drivetrain.

Thank you, I am not that crazy to bump or skid wheels, just a front footer on streets. Time to find find another gsl-se rear and front swap. Thanks again.

BTW: Can some one explain the symptoms on when the U-Joint is an issue. I still could not figure out if this is a u-joint or differential ring, bearings.it still clunking , jerking while on coasting or slow freewheeling.

I had the same problem when I backed up slowly. Turns out the pillowballs were bad, I'm not sure if your rear suspension has them.
