VA Coolant leak front passenger side after shut off....

First off just know that I have searched through the forum and found a bunch of threads but none got to this point. Yesterday my buddy and I pulled the relays, wires and all that off the fender walls under the hood to clean them and plastic dip spray them (which turned out really good). But while my buddy was trying to move the fill neck of the coolant overflow tank off the fender wall the neck cracked pretty much in half. Wasnt sure if that would cause any prolblems so I just went about my day and sprayed the bay and put everything back. Took it for a ride today and when I got home and shut it off about a cup or so coolant trickled out from under the passenger headlight area.

Fact 1 - Car runs great and doesnt smoke or anything
Fact 2 - This is the first time it has ever happened
Fact 3 - My buddy is a &^%&

Please let me know if you think the fill neck could be the cause and if so where is the best place to get a replacement or is there a better way to swap all that out for a better setup???

Thanks for all your help guys and gals

The problem seems self evident: the coolant overflow bottle was damaged.

New ones are at the dealer. They are a pain to access because the fender needs to come off.

That was my thought as well, but can I just replace it with an aftermarket one or something?

But why would a crack in the fill neck of the overflow cause fluid to overflow after shutdown?

Your profile lists a FD. While in this section it's helpful to post that.
To answer your question, a couple of guesses.....
*It may be leaking a little while your driving but you can't see it.
*Heatsoak. Coolant temp actually rises a little right after shutdown and it's enough to expand into the overflow and reach the level of the neck and leak.

Not certain, but I don't THINK that you can buy just the neck. You may have to buy the whole thing.

I was thinking using Universal Coolant Overflow fill tank RX7 Celica Eclipse | eBay in its place.

Where do you intend to mount it?
IMO, get OEM...either used or new and be done with it instead of causing more issues trying to wedge that thing somewhere under the hood.

I have the greddy t88 single conversion with the greddy fmic so there is space I think to make it happen. I am still on the fence though. I think I am going to tape it up really well and drive it a bit and make sure thats the problem first.

Pulled the overflow feed neck off and plastic welded it back up and then replaced it. Then i went to check the pressure cap and when I lifted the red tab all kinds of pressure was released and the overflow tank bubbled and overflowed through the black nipple. Note that the car hasnt been ran since last week.

?????

Do you have an AST? If you do make sure it has a .9 bar pressure cap. Thats the kind with a spring.
If you don't have an AST make sure the filler neck has that cap. A .9 bar.....no higher.
Then closely check the hose from the overflow. No kinks, nothing pressing against it anywhere.
Never heard of this issue...these are the only two things I can think of without seeing the car and checking stuff.

Good advice, I still havent had the chance to get the car up on stands to start really looking at it. I plan to do that as soon as possible. I think that the line from the AST may be the problem just thinking about it. Why else would all that pressure build up in the AST and not release to the tank? Cause like I said when I released the cap it had all kinds of pressure and it hadnt been ran in days.

On another note, I have owned the car now for a few months and since I bought I have been looking for a place to take it to have it looked at and then tuned. But I have had ZERO luck in the VA area. PF Supercars never picks up the phone or returns email, RP Tuning is just never there.

Could be a bad radiator cap, or like they said, a leak in the overflow line, or the bottle. It should not affect anything by putting an aftermarket bottle. Just make sure you buy one big enough to handle the amount needed.

SGTBLUE is right also, make sure the cap is right, a soft cap will allow to much water back into the oveflow, too hard will cap too much pressure in the cooling system, which could cause leaks later on. Good luck with your car.
