Catalytic converter question

makes me sound dumb. but no question is stupid. im kinda new to the rx owner scene. had a 82 gsl for a few years which is what i got now. but i been around em all my life. my gpa had one. and my mom has a twin turbo. but on my 82. on the catalytic converter, im taken it off, but there's something liek a relay or something coming out the side of it. my question is, what is it and is it important? would i be able to just hack saw the thing off because the bolt and nut on it are on it and on it good. i've tried heating it, breaking it, everything but now there stripped. what can i do?

There are no relays on the catalytic converter. They would probably melt. There's an air tube, for injecting air into the converter for emissions, but that's about all I can think of.

It's the exhaust's overheating temp sensor thingy. All it does is flip on a dummy light on the dash if the exhaust gets too hot. If you cut it off in the wrong place you'll have an exhaust leak. I don't remember what happens when you disconnect it, it might turn on the little light, it might not. I don't recall. Maybe someone else can help us out.

i also have an 82 but mine is an s. i thought the exhaust overheat was located inside the cockpit on the passenger side floorboard/hump. there should be no relays running to the cats. the only thing that runs to them is an air line for the air pump.

Yeah, I think the overheat sensor is located on the floor board, not the cat.

And there are no stupid questions, only inquisitive idiots.
