Best ECU for FD3S?

Hey Guys,

I'm finally just about to get my fd3s back on the road after being off the road for about 6 months with the need of a new clutch and a few minor things that i've upgraded

I want to put a new high flow exhaust on it, but at the risk of the engine 'popping' I will need to upgrade my ECU. I'm currently running the standard twinturbo setup with the original OMP but am looking to do a single turbo conversion in the future.

Which ECU is best to run on the FD3S? The ones im looking at are:
Power FC
Link G3/G4
Microtech LT10s
Haltech

advantage of the PowerFC & Link are they're direct Plug'n'Play replacement, no wiring necessary. I believe though the Microtech & Haltech - while needing to be custom wired are much more tuneable?

We have plenty of tuners in NZ for PowerFC & Microtech specifically for rx7 and a handful of good tuners for Haltech & Links for rx7. But which would be the best?

Thanks

There is no "best" ECU.

Many FD owners go with the PowerFC as it is plug and play.

Then the order is basically Haltech and then Microtech. The Microtech has the least amount of features of all those ECUs, but in my opinion is far more reliable then the Haltech (I can't compare it to the PowerFC as I have never used one).

i have a PFC & i have neva had a problem with it, but which ever you go for its worth hunting round to see if a garage will do a deal for the ecu & setting it up for one price, i found it works so much cheaper

Find the best rotary tuner you can tolerate to do the work (drive a long way if you have to) and ask them what they prefer.

The PowerFC, Haltech, and Microtech all do the job very well. You want the best rotary tuner you can get using the ECU they know best. Tuning a turbo rotary is different from piston engines, so don't let someone's experience with piston engines sway your decision because you DON'T want them learning to tune a rotary on your engine.

If you're going to tune yourself then maybe I'd swing favor toward the PowerFC. It's used widely and you'll get more information and support that way.

i know the guy at our biggest rx7 specialist in NZ for PFC who can tune it for me, and a mate of mine can tune microtech so those are my 2 top choices since until I get seriously into the build, they can do the tuning for me for a box of beers

Well the plan is to rebuild the engine with PTS racing seals and a stage 2 port then modify with
HKS Type-R V-Mount intercooler & radiator kit
GT42RS Turbo
60mm Wastegate
Upgraded fuel rails with 800/1600cc injectors
2 x Bosch fuel pumps
3" HKS downpipe to midpipe with steel cat & catback exhaust system (or maybe Apexi catback)
**and all the little bits and pieces to tie it all together**

Just want to make sure I dont run into problems and having to drop another NZ$2-3k on an ECU to find out that it's not up to the job

edit: didnt realise that this post actually worked yesterday. this subject is in the main forum here:

Nothing against your friend but he's probably not as good at tuning rotaries as the guy at the specialist shop. I'd go PowerFC, and if you want to tinker later there is plenty of info out there for you and your friend to learn PowerFC's.

If you want a plug and play id go power fc. I love it. my power fc gives great gas milage even though it looks like a diesel truck when i floor it, about 400 miles to the tank highway. though i have to change it soon since i am going to put a gt42 in it soon, i'll probably go with a haltech soon.
