Sounds like you could have a fuel issue. I would replace the fuel filter first of all and see how that does. It could be partially clogged and that's why you're getting a surge while idling. It won't happen while you're driving around because you're forcing more fuel threw the filter so you don't notice the lag/surge but in the long run it would cut down on the cars performance. If its not your filter then it could be your fuel pump surging. I would check the power to your pump to make sure its getting the right voltage and if it is, after you've already replaced the filter that is and if you still have the problem, I would go and buy a walbro 255 fuel pump and then hopefully everything will be g2g. Good luck.

With being a turbo vehicle a vacuum leak can always be a problem with poor performance. It wouldn't hurt to get your system leak checked. However, a vacuum leak would be more constant and really show when driving around and really getting on the gas. Not so much when you're just sitting around at idle but its still a good thing to check if it hasn't been looked at in a long time. Good luck man.

It sounds like a surging (aka "hunting") idle. Usually caused by a big vacuum leak.

Did you by chance recently change ECUs?

When installing a PFC ECU it is necessary for the computer to relearn the idle. If this problem did not coincide with the idle issue it is safe to assume they are unrelated.
