Exclamation '93 blue smoke in exhaust

Hey guys,

So I've been searching the website for a few days trying to find a situation discussed on here that could shed light on my issue. Right now I'm driving a '93 FD with 69xxx km and when I noticed the oil was low the other day I headed into Partsource to grab some to top it off. I just bought the car a few weeks ago and wasn't sure what type of oil to use, asked the guy and he recommended any 5W-30 based on the climate I'm in. I grabbed some Castrol GTX and topped off the oil. 20 min later I'm sitting at a red light and I smell burning oil, look in my mirror and im blowing fricken plumes of blue smoke out of my pipe. I went home and let the car cool off and when I fired it up again about an hour later, there was no smoke at all. Now when the car heats up and the engine drops to an idle I get blue smoke out of my exhaust. Since then I did a full oil change and used Mobil synthetic. Same problem, no smoke at start-up but after driving a while and letting the engine idle i get blue smoke. What's my problem? Fried turbo seals, screwed OPM? I have no idea. Anyway if you read all that I appreciate it and hopefully you can give me some insight.

Cheers, Ryan

For every person saying that it's bad to use synthetic, there is another who says it's better. So that's a nonissue here.

I agree that oil burn is the cause. It could be the hot side turbo seals, cold side turbo seals, or an oil control ring in the engine. If you see the oil puddling at the lowest points of the intake it's a sure sign of cold side turbo seals.

How many miles are on the turbos? Engine?
