KY 86 rx7 na shifting problem

My 86 RX7 Na, sometimes when I shift (its not gear specfic) I press down on the clutch and it won't shift. I raise my foot off the clutch and push again it shift's. What could be causing this problem? Clutch master and slave replaced 9 mos ago with aftermaket parts. Shifter bushing replaced over a year ago with oem parts.

What happens when you press it the first time? Will the trans not leave the gear? Or will it not go into the next gear?

Does this only happen when its hot? Do you hear a grinding noise with the clutch pedal pushed in?

When 1st pressed down, it wont shift (trans will not move out of that gear or into next gear), but when released and repressed it shifts into next gear. No grinding noise and does this hot or cold.

Sounds like a normal master/slave issue. When you replaced the master and slave, where did you get the parts from?y

Ok, let me piggyback a question off of this (while not trying to hijack your thread). I know (from experience) that you are able to adjust the clutch rod that works the master cylinder from the pedal. Is there a way to adjust the slave cylinder? I ask this because, like the original poster here, my 1st and 2nd gears are hard to go into either upshifting or downshifting. I don't have the problem with having to essentially double clutch, mine just feels like the clutch fork is failing to disengage all the way when I shift.

You cannot adjust the slave cylinder, only the pedal.

Hi , DW, have you been speed shifting your RX ? ,you may have sheared of the shifter forks lock pins , or have you recently changed the clutch and pilot shaft needle bearing, the needle bearing must be driven in to the back e shaft all the way,if it is not ,the bearing seal sticks out too far and allows the needle bearing seal to rub on the trans input shaft, and turn it, while the clutch is depressed ,or it might be a poor set of bushings in the shifter (lots of play)or in the case of later trans a broken nylon lower shifter bushing, also if all is ok try, changing the trans fluid and running a synthetic trans fluid, I have had success with all of these regarding hard shifting issues .......Hope it helps .....Good luck.......................................FP

sounds like the hydraulic parts are starting to fail if it shifts into gear when you pump the clutch pedal a second time...

check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder; low?

try bleeding it and see if it helps.....

rest ur foot on the clutch pedal and see if it bleeds down. if it does, replace clutch master, slave, and flex line. it's best to do all cause when one fails, the rest aint far behind. trust me.

if any of this was his problem, it wouldn't matter how many times he pumps the pedal. it's straight up a hydrolic issue.

It seems to me it is one of three things the slave, master or lines have a bit of air in them making it necessary to push the clutch the second time or the clutch has too much free play.. or maybe the master is by passing a tad..

Dw seems like all the guys think its a master or slave cyl. (some won"t agree) but If you take a vice grip and gently pinch off the flexible clutch line then press down and hold your clutch pedal down firmly, if it's defective your foot will go slowly to the floor indicating a leak( it will do this if the line is not pinched off properly ) if its ok then peel back the slave cyl rubber and look for leaking fluid, ( you can go inside and check the Master the same way)either way you can locate the defective part,I once had a master cyl,that was new that had a tapered spring ,but was inserted backwards and the rubber would work but the pedal would slowly loose pressure on the clutch,and the car would slowly pull away with your foot still pressed on the floor
