You can have one done if you'd like, but I would not be concerned about a compression test personally. Does the car start and run well cold or hot? If so then I wouldn't be terribly concerned about compression. These engines don't have high failure rates at lower mileage if they were well cared for and started and driven somewhat regularly.
Check for signs of a collision and for rust in the common areas such as the rear wheel wells and control arm mounts. Rocker rust can be an issue as well as the door bottoms. Would love to see pictures of the car!

Don't have pics yet. Looking at car today. The pics that I saw of the car looked great. Red with sunroof and paint looked great but will see. Supposedly garage kept. Cloth seats appeared to be in good shape. This is GS model. Any idea of a good price based on the above would be appreciated

I'll try sending pics. I looked at the car but don't think I'm interested. I'm looking for something a little more sophisticated like a mid 2000 mustang gt. Other than the fact that it's an automatic this car was nice. 55k, original paint with the exception of having a few dings taken car of. Cloth interior and carpet are nice. Has sunroof and top for it. AC not working. Only thing wrong I could see was an exhaust leak near manifold. I don't know rx7's but this would appear to be one of the nicest originals out there. There did appear to be a small oil leak. Offered on a site called Letgo.

Thats a really nice car!! I've seen torque converter issues appear on the late automatic versions. They seem to lock too early and cause the engine to stall when placed into gear from park. Its just something to consider when looking at the car. Appear to be a lower mileage example.
Have the needles on the instrument cluster turned to a yellowish color or are they still orange? That's an indication of whether the car has been garage kept all of its life or not. Some do fade early but the super clean garage kept examples still have orange needles.
If you are close to Ohio, you are welcome to bring the car over and I will run a compression test with my rotary compression tester at no charge.. just give you a little peace of mind. I wouldn't be too concerned about compression. That appears to be a lower mileage example and with the auto transmission, you know the engine wasn't abused.
