84 gsl project
Hi all,
I just bought an 84 gsl for $150, otherwise it was going to the wrecker. I know nothing about these cars, but want to get her running again.
In short, it still has the motor in it (12a) but is missing quite a few important things to run. The previous owner pulled off the entire exhaust, intake, carb, and for some reason the ignition coils, but left the ignition rotor, oh, and and a bunch of vacuum hoses you all refer to as the rats nest I believe?
Anyhow, it looks as though the car was hoped up for racing at one point, but I just wanna get her running again, and am wondering what the best way for me to do that is. Will it work to just get the stock parts and piece er back together? What about all those confusing vacuum hoses and things, can I avoid using them? Bytheway, this does not have to pass emissions, I'm outa town.

welcome to the board.
congrats on finding such a great deal.
you will first need to get a copy of the FSM. having a reference is invaluable. your next big step will be taking inventory of what you have left and what you need. also check for any cut or suspicious-looking wires. the rat's nest can be deleted.
putting it back together may get time-consuming but as long as the previous owner didn't do anything in the way of ground-breaking stupidity, it should not be difficult. these are pretty simple cars.
go ahead and read the stickies in this section. acquire your posts the right way (each new member is pretty much GIVEN 9 if they take the time to read) and then just look through the classifieds. you can also try your luck in junkyards.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I feel a bit more at ease with this project. I really like this little car, so am up for putting some time into it. It came with a LSD, and 4 wheel disk brakes, so down the road I might juice it up a bit and take it to the track!

What do I need to do to delete the rats nest etc? Is there an earlier post I can refer to?
It looks like I may have a carb coming, and i might get a rebuild kit for it, so it's probably a good idea I should know ahead of time if there is something to do with the carb during rebuild?
Thanks all!
