82 Carb Floods

My car starts fine when cold and runs well. If you stop and leave it sit for 15 to 20 minutes the carb fills with gas.

Float levels are fine, carbon filter fine, check valve removed.

Any Ideas?

Thanks.

What check valve? If you're talking about the one in the return fuel line, then put it back it.

If that is not what you are referring to, then make sure the fuel bowl vent solenoid is plugged in.

I disconnected the ventilation and check valve and removed the gas cap. The carb flooding stopped.

After several times of driving the car I had the same behavior.

If I drive the car and leave the gas cap on and the check valve has the top connector removed) all works well.

So I assume that this means that I need a new ventilation and check valve. How important is this. If I leave it disconnected what are the issues that I might have to deal with?

Thanks, Steve

Ventilation and check valve? Are you referring to the Float Bowl Vent Solenoid?

Or is this something that is not on the carb, but under the car down by the fuel tank?

This is the valve next to the carb. Here is a picture with the valve circled in red. I removed the top hose.

Ah, its been so long since I've run any emissions.....

I don't know if that would have any effect on your situation or not.

You might try asking the expert: www.sterlingmetalworks.com/bymc

Turned out to be the charcoal canister. I disconnected and it is venting to air.

Will this cause any problems?

Thanks
