NH Synaptic 3 motorsports

Has anyone used this place lately? I've called them about 20 times over the past week and always get an answering machine. I'd take a ride out there but it's about 30 minutes to just have it be closed.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with them, not going to air it out on here though. But, your best bet to get in contact with them is e-mail. Good luck (;

It doesn't matter what shop you look into you'll always hear some bad stories here and there. If you talk to a biased person or a shop *****, then you'll get more bad stories than good. It's just the way it works. I had Dana at Synaptic 3 work on my FD race car for 8 years or so until I sold it recently. They know what they are doing, but for any customer who wants a shop with a perfect record, you'll never find it....unless they just opened yesterday.

And I bought that race car from the poster above. Since acquiring the beast, I have done two track events with it with many more to come. The car had been in storage for a bit, so Dana went through it, found some items needing upkeep, designed and fabbed some killer low mount seat frames for the racetech seats. Also, Synaptic3 tuned it and the engine is amazing.

The car is predictable, grip is leechlike, power is wonderful. Dana really knows how to do a race alignment. The car has been the fastest car there at the two events. Also, he knows how to keep rotaries alive and happy. I think it is imperative to only let rotary experts work on rotaries, and Dana and Ron are experts.
Dana set up my lemons car and the handling is phenomenal. The engine blew its hg at Loudon on Saturday, but the car was set up clean, safe, and fast.

I had my car tunned there a few months back. Dana was great for communications. Calls were returned within an hour. He even sent a follow up email to make sure everything was ok. Their tunner is Alex. He's a supra guy but we won't hold that against him He did a great job, very methodical. My only complaint was that they were much more expensive than anywhere else I've been. It was around $1200 for one session.

Seriously?! I like the crew at Synaptic3, but $1,200 for a tune is downright highway robbery! Now if they showed up at NHMS or Lime Rock for a tune and dial in, that would justify that number slightly.

For comparison, my tune at SpeedOne/KDR with Dave Barringer was $195 for an hour plus Power FC session with a grounding kit install in the middle with a pre and post dyno analysis. I didn't enjoy driving over the NY bridges to get there, or the 10 hour plus round trip in a bucket seat and 5 point harness without A/C or a radio, but I would happily make it again to save $1,000. $195 for 80 extra wheel horsepowers has been the best bang for my buck on my build to date. I know they have a new tuner working with Dave, so I am not sure if that's still their rate, but I am sure it is nowhere near as much as S3's.

You arent being fair in jumping on S3.
I had my rx7 tuned there for 500 I think last time, but it was a fairly easy, but very thorough, tune.
It really depends on the car, the number
of maps, the setup on the engine, turbos, boost control, meth, things that had to be fixed, ect.
Franz Diebold charged me around $1000 for a Subaru tune that was great but boost spiked. Junior charged me $750 for a tune that shift knocked and had no drive ability. F1 Portland charged me $350 for a tune that made no power.
My s3 tunes are safe, driveable, and powerful. After loosing 3 engines I seek out the best tuners anywhere.
And YES! The S3 guys will go with you to track events and tweak stuff if it can possibly work out. I've been on many of those so far in both my Subaru life and Rx7 life.

How were my facts not fair? Would you pay $1,200 or $195 for a tune if they had the same results - multiple maps, safe AFRs, a good deal of power, reliable settings that hold up?

I don't think anyone is jumping on Synaptic, rather just stating that they are a bit expensive. If you look on their site, http://www.synaptic3.com/dyno.html , you will see that they charge $250 an hour for a standalone dyno tune. Not an opinion, just a fact. When I lived in South Carolina is was only $150/hr for a dyno tune. Over a 4 1/2 hour tuning session that really adds up. It is on their site and they are up front with their prices so it is not as if they are cheating anyone. The facilities are great and they have a lot of RX-7 experience, so it's not a bad option if you have the cash.
