alright hows it going..as you know steve kan was here a year ago, and he did such an amazing job that i and others want him back to tune again. ill be setting everything up, so ask questions if needed. i want to get a list of people that want to tune.

im going to try to get him on the island late march. ill have more info later.

alright steve agreed to come to long island in late march. we need a min of 5 people. im also goin to try and rent out lizzard racings dyno for a saturday again. lizzard racing is in west babylon for those who dont know. fees are $350 for kan to tune plus air fare, and dyno time, which ill talk about when i get more info.

for those who dont know who steve kan is, hes the owner and founder of gotham racing adn hes a genious when it comes to tuning and rx7s. real nice guy, well worth the money if you care about your rx7.

basically change your oil the day before, adn the spark plugs, fuel filter.

bring your own tools just incase, you need them
bring a quart of oil
fill up on your daily driving gas ex. 93
just make sure its up to spec.

Every time i've had my car tuned its taken hours...

no driving its goin to be on a dyno, not sure on the ticket yet ill keep you informed, adn to do 5 cars will be no problem, figure 2-3 hours each. we;ll have the dyno the entire day, trust me it will work out.

PM me the price you are paying for the dyno for the day. I can talk to Tony from TandR Racing and see if he can beat the price. I was at T and R last night and they had a red 3rd gen and a red turboII dynoeing at 2am. Tony kept the shop open until everyone was ready to leave. With Steve on a specific timeline, this might help and at the same time lower the prices for everyone since I am sure he will stay open until everyone is completely finished.

In case you are wondering, it is a 2005 model dynojet with the dynojet wideband 02.

the thing is that there really isnt a good starting point to tune my car. Its completely custom and Im sure there are going to be some issues since its the first time its really been setup and "finished" so Im sure Ill have other issues to get dialed in and dont want to take all the time

Just read through last year's post. If I got my fuel filter changed 3k miles ago, will it be necessary to change it again before the tune?

 

no you;ll be fine, just make sure everythign is up to snuff.

my car is currently acting up plus i got a few parts to swap before i can say im in for sure. On that note, and since its happened to me pretty much every single time i've tried to get my car turned, what happens if theres a problem? refund? Id be pissed if i spend more than $450 to have my car develop a new problem and end up with the ever so popular "safe tuning" so you boost but dont blow up again(wihich is what i'm currently running on).

 

I think we paid $100 an hour for dyno time last year. Matt at Lizzard was a good host, but if Tony is willing to keep the shop open late that would be cool. I remember a certain FD that got tuned as the shop was closing, Brandon

If Tony is willing to keep it open late, it might be a good option to go there. This way Steve can do a couple of more cars and make the trip more worthwhile (read profitable) for himself and more of the local guys can get tuned. Win/Win situation there.

It's not my call though since I'm not the one setting this up.

Steve made quick work of the cars running twins getting them done in 1-2 hours. He spent more time on cars requiring more attention such as ZoomZoom's and another car that day.

Regarding the day's expenses, budget as follows:
<b>- $350 for Steve's tuning fee
- ~$100 per HOUR of dyno time (budget 2 hours for your car)
total = at least $450 probalby closer to $550</b>

However since none of us is independently wealthy (I think), we should also consider the following potential costs:
- the cost of the flight divided among the people who get tuned (last time GCThree graciously paid for Steve's flight out of his frequent flyer miles - Thank You!)
- potentially Steve's hotel

Perhaps r1dreamer can comment upon how those expenses will work?

2FAST7s and others - if you guys are having issues with your car, don't bring it. Don't plan on showing up and spending time working on your car while you wait to get tuned. Chances are you won't get done in time and Steve isn't here to work on your cars.

There are no guarantees. Do some research on tuning and educate yourselves about the possible risks involved and if you are still interested, register/post here. If your car is in good mechanical shape to begin with, the risks are neglible. If your car has problems such as low compression or clogged injectors et etc, then the risks are obviously gonna be higher. Steve is very competent and Knowledgeable and I doubt anything will happen unless there is an underlying problem to begin with.

 

What if your car isnt running correctly and makes poor numbers? Will he troubleshoot the car at all? Thanks.
