Just saying hello. Anyone know what Warrenton is like? I'll be moving there Oct 1. So who's in the area?

Hey...welcome man. First things first...

- Cops here are NO JOKE. 20 over = license suspension + jailtime. I promise you that. Kansas is long gone Dorthy

- Traffic in this area SUCKS. You're in Warrenton, so for the most part you're good to go. But if you come down I-66 toward the Northern VA area, always overestimate how long it'll take to get anywhere, at any hour of the day. That way, you'll only be 15 min late

- Warrenton is a non-emissions county, which means it's midpipe time baybee! Ask me how I know I have to make trips to Warrenton every now and then, so we should def. meet up soon.

In short, welcome, enjoy, but just be forewarned: we have the worst cops (traffic-wise) and worst traffic in the nation, so don't take things lightly, because they don't. Otherwise, it's a great place to live

~Ramy

EDIT: Oh and Pat, Warrenton proper (aka the actual town of Warrenton) is 40 min from my door (going at midnight or 1 am). Def. not 100 miles

I think the DMV is going to make me do a smog test just because I'm from out of state. But I was trying to avoid the counties that require smog tests. Cold starts kind of smoke a little. From what I hear everyone does 80 on the highways just to keep with the flow. Jail time, wow. What I'm really disappointed in is that I'll have to put away my radar detector. That sucks. Rotary Performance is in Manassas and PFS is just up the street in MD isn't it?

Please don't start with the Kansas jokes, and if you do, please make sure you have the cliche' correct.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Absolutely not. If you register your vehicle in a non-emissions county, such as that of Fauquier County (which is where Warrenton is located), you do NOT have to pass any emissions standard - whether the car is in or out of state.

But I was trying to avoid the counties that require smog tests.
If you're in Fauquier County, you're golden.

Jail time, wow.
Yes sir...trust me on it, don't test it out for yourself plz. The judges in NoVa have actually received word from above that they're not jailing enough people, so they new unofficial memo says that for every mile above 90 is a day in jail. So you get caught doing a buck twenty, you're doing a month in jail.

In case you don't believe me, from http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories...3553&ran=83523

Fines raised for reckless driving, speeding on I-95 stretch
By HEATHER GREENFIELD, Associated Press

"State trooper Mike Counts said in just two months, officers have made 900 arrests along I-95 in Richmond and 1,000 arrests on I-81. They have also seen a decrease in fatalities.

He hopes for the same in northern Virginia, which represents about 6 percent of the I-95 corridor in the state, but has 13 percent of the accidents."

Nuff said

What I'm really disappointed in is that I'll have to put away my radar detector. That sucks.
I would strongly advise against that. It's well worth the risk to keep the detector running in the car. If you have an FD, the best thing to do is hardwire it, and run the wire up in the headliner, and using the suction cups, mount the detector on the front windshield above the rearview mirror. It can't be seen from outside looking at the windshield, and it's above the window/door frame line, so it can't be seen unless a cop actually sticks his head IN the window, which he'll NEVER do, since that's a major safety hazzard.

Rotary Performance is in Manassas and PFS is just up the street in MD isn't it?
RP is in Manassas, so is the only body shop you'll wanna deal with: Mr Spoiler. It's right behind RP. Mitch Piper's shop (for custom fabrication, roll bars, etc) is currently joined w/ RP, but he's moving out to Centerville/Chantilly. PBC is in Centerville. PFS is out in Fredericksburg, MD, which is pretty damn far.

Please don't start with the Kansas jokes, and if you do, please make sure you have the cliche' correct.
Man...don't gotta be so touchy. I was just kiddin man.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.
Ditto. Always good to have more fellow rotorheads

That's good news about the smog test, I was worried. Looks like I'll have to fiind some back roads to play on. What's the fine on having a radar detector? The Kansas cracks are ok, it's not like I'm too attached to the state. I just forgot to put the J/K on the end of the statement. I've tried to leave 4 times already but family keeps dragging me back.

You are very brave to move to VA with your RX-7... that's all I will say.

I live in Maryland, but I have to commute through VA ... it SUCKS since I"m dodging cops all day long.

welcome Yea PFS is right up the road from me, a pretty long haul for you guys probably. Ray is the man tho, he does great work and knows the fd like the back of his hand. Look foward to meeting you. And ramy, it sucks that you guys got cops like that. I got caught doing 98 in a 65 on 95. I would have been so screwed in VA. lol.

Maverick. I'm afraid you're going to have to elaborate on the "rotary legal defense fund." I hope it has something to do with getting our own lane. Do you have family here in Kansas?

NoVA is shitty, but if your coming from t-town, it shouldn't be that bad for you. You could do a lot worse, but of course, you already have been.

Va/Dc/Md area is one of the best places to live in the world.
why?? because the area is recession proof, because of the
Federal government.

And you are far enough away from DC, so hopefully
you won't have to deal with the rift raft thats getting
pushed out of DC.

Great place to be.. but in VA, get ready to be Taxed, and more tax.
Property tax, county tax, city tax, on top of all the other tax's.

welcome..

Yes, good news indeed. Hence why I love Warrenton so much

What's the fine on having a radar detector?
Last I "checked" (lol) it's only a $40 fine for the actual violation. But we have this incredibly wonderful system where you pay for court fees WHETHER OR NOT YOU GO TO COURT (yes, read that twice, scratch your head and ask me how that works, and I'll just shrug and say "I dunno?" ). And the magical court fee is now up to .... (drumroll....) $55. LOL. So yes, you pay MORE in court fees than for the violation itself. A whopping $95. And that court fee is continually subject to change. It was in the low 40's a year or two ago...

The Kansas cracks are ok, it's not like I'm too attached to the state. I just forgot to put the J/K on the end of the statement. I've tried to leave 4 times already but family keeps dragging me back.
That's cool man...I thought you were serious and mad...didn't mean to offend, that's all.

Plz don't remind me. I'm in a real bad spot now cuz of these crazy laws and hell-bent cops

I agree w/ SlingShotRX7 100%. Fairfax County is one of the most desirable places to live in America. In fact, Vienna, VA was just named one of the top 10 most desirable places in the nation. The only prob is, the congestion, traffic, and crazy cops running the streets are spoiling it. Otherwise, how can you complain about a place w/ probably the nicest residential areas, some of the best schools, beautiful scenery, and safest community around?

OMG, thank GOD you're in Warrenton man. STAY AWAY from NoVa unless you wanna have a heart attack when looking at prices on homes. Really. I'm sure things are quite affordable in Warrenton though.

In Alexandria, my father has a 2000ish sq ft single family house on a quarter acre just north of Ft. Belivour. $800K

My mother has a beat to **** townhouse, substandard wiring falling apart everything else... It's near Old Town though, so it demands a premium. POS goes for $600K

I rent a 1000 Sq ft apartment just south of Ft. Belivour. My rent is federally capped for low income residents. It's built on an abandoned prison right near a sewage treatment plant. And for this lovely little pile, I pay $1050 a month. Plus Utilities.
