So... whats the deal with "RotorFest 2008" (or w/e you're going to call it)
#52
i agree with chris,i think we shouldn't change the name, but i do agree we should let them know we are using the name! with or w/o their consent,i don't think vosko even owns his fc anymore and the last time i talked to jay, his fd was for sale, after last year's event i don't think vosko wants it anymore, i felt bad the way everyone bashed him at the end last year, before he handed out the awards, i would love to see rotorfest 08 i've to all but rotorfest 04,(under new management)we see this all the time!
last time I heard from Jay he was driving his FD more then ever.
he also has a different job that has much more responsiblity these days.
As I have stated in the past- its time to pass the torch on to people with more time to invest in this. Then when its over those involved can sit back and hear the critisizm and take it for what its worth and try to make everyone happy.

I just thought that I'd throw in my 5 cents worth (2 cents + rate of inflation). I went to Rotorfest last year for the first time. I too was not very happy with the last minute increase of the cost to get in. I wasn't sure if I was actually going to make it. After having fuel pickup issues and finally making it to the track, and for those of you who got stuck behind my black FB when it coughed & sputtered, I apologize. Of course, taking the "scenic route" following some sketchy directions that got passed out, certainly didn't help my situation much. Thats OK, at least I wasn't alone. Anyway, once I got into the track, I had a great time. Met some great people and saw some killer rides. For whatever reason, Vosko fucked up with how the entrance fee was handled. I, not having been able to personally support the previous Rotorfests by being there, do have to respect the time and effort that putting these events on can take. I'm not aware of issues with any of the previous events, only this one. Given that, I hope that if the name Rotorfest is to continue to be used for this event, whether run by Vosko or others, I would hope that if it is to be run by others, it would be done so after Vosko agrees to not hold "Rotorfest" himself. Either way, I would hope that Rotorfest, as an event, continues on.

well last year was my first Rotorfest. All I have to say if we use the name "Rotorfest" let use it if not make something up. Dont care if there is no name, as long I have fun and meet everyone and new people . The only thing I do care is the price. But what happen last year thats last year.. Vosko did his thing, that it. Let plan something out, Where, when, shyt like this to be plan out. I know Jay when his hand is free, will make it happen.

Personally, I don't care what it is called. We need a NE/Mid Atlantic rotary meet during the summer. I'll try to be there. John/Jason - need to determine the date asap so that all of us old folk can plan ahead to be there.
Looking forward to seeing lots of 7's there.

We should have the main Rx7 function somewhere, where there is more roads to cruise on. Honestly I think bear mountain or some huge park that we can cruise at would be nice. Drag is great and all but what ever happened to corners and pinic area's?
Rotorfest the year before was awesome but from what I heard about the last I'll show up at an Evo meet before I return there...

I am down for whatever goes on since there are only three 7's in the area that I see and I own 2 of them.

organise an event if you like, but its jay and vosko arent involved find another name. rotorfest is thier creation.
im not taking ides on what happened last year, but right is right, dont try to steal thier event. if you feel you can put on your own event, great, but dont steal thiers, START your own.

NOTE: I havent read all of the other posts, just starting to catch up.
NOte 2: Just read the whole thing. Im very busy with school and work and barely have enuff time to scratch and sniff my own *** in one shot, but once school is over in 3 weeks and the new year starts, i will hit this hardcore. I plan on having something coordinated with john, chris m and other fellow rotary enthusiasts that want to help.
To be quite honest what is rotorfest for. The purpose of the event is this:
1) To meet fellow enthusiasts
2) To look at cool sexy rotary rides (old school and new)
3) To hang out, talk about cars, cars and more cars
SO technically cant we have this anywhere, i think you get these 3 basic qualities at any NYRA/CTRA Meet. We come thru park, talk, eat and shoot the ****. THe only difference that i would do for this year is to have some type of sponsor (hopefully mazdaspeed) so they can pay for the trophies, and POTENTIAL catered event (basic **** like hotdogs, burgers, chicken fingers). Nothing is set in stone but we want to make this event totally DIFFERENT, hence why i want it to have a new name, so when ppl hear that name they know its gonna be GOOD, like NYRA lol =) <~~~ self BUMP.
I will promise to get something cracking by january, since school will be out of the way and i can always work around work, and i rarely sleep so i got some more free time.

I agree Roan, i wouldnt want to call it that anyways since it already left a bad taste in lots of peoples mouth, its a new fresh event and it will have a new name since its not RF.

Or is that a "bring your own" thing?

i talked to the two guys from Mazdaspeed Jim Jordan and John doonan they said they were interested and they wanted to sponsor in the form of monetary donation, they just want to see exactly what we need and they would rather donate money and some hats and tees. I emailed him in Oct as he requested but have yet to receive another one back. So i will try in January when im off from school.
And im not saying its a Car show only, RF had a crappy car show, so iwould liek to expand it and make it a lot nicer, with a portable dyno for ppl who want to see what there pushing, and make it an overall event with different aspects, information kiosk for mazda and their vehicles if we need that to get some type of donation then yeah.
Ill see once i talk to them, and even if they DONT, then we will still find another way.

Thanks Jay! Sorry this will not be a NOPI ricer event with girls. If thats your thing go somewhere else.(thats like computer geeks play video games because they have hot chicks in them) This event is for people passionate about the rotary motor and the cars they are in.

Rather than trying to get new places, why not just have it at island again? Most know how to get there, it's a nice place with lots of room. This his way John and I can also settle it once and for all, line it up!

Maybe I could bring our Dynapack over to Rotofest if there is a nice turnout with people who would like to see some #s. This being if I could get a # of pre-paying people so I don't come out of pocket completely. I'll have to big our flatbed from NYC, so it has to be able to atleast pay for tolls and gas expences etc...

I can't wait until the planning for this event begins, there appear to be a lot of good ideas out there!
