Damn, thats a long drive.

Got some pictures for you guys. This is what happens when me and Robin get a hold of a private parking lot.
http://www.zaxjax.com/burnout_pictures.htm

You should have seen the pile of rubber left behind. Its all gummed up in the wheel well too.

rgordon1979 05-16-03 01:40 PM

Best of luck to you. What do you have planned once you get there? Drive safe.

afterburn27 05-16-03 02:28 PM

Anyone want a really nice TR6 or know someone who does? ;)

This is the car I will probably be selling sometime this summer to get an fd or a nice S5 TII. I'll miss her, but I'm sure the replacement will be well worth it.

rgordon1979 05-16-03 04:35 PM

Zach, I grew some balls before I left work today and tried to do a burnout. There were two problems, wheel hop is a son of a bitch and abs needs to be disabled. I may give it another go tomorrow afternoon.

88 vert 05-16-03 08:53 PM

Kewl pics zach!We all need to get together somewhere in a deserted lot and get some crazy video.
An as for you JOE DAMN you i looked at that post about the microtech, and im lost i think im getting a headache looking at all those #'s(i need a beer).

Josepi 05-17-03 08:22 AM

Yea...there were more numbers too... :)

Saabguy pointed out something that seems to seriously match up...going to play with that setting some and see what happens. I've known I'm running rich as hell...If I open my sunroof only, I was getting gassed till I put the hatch carpet down...

Oh yea, the combination of the microtech+premixing+lower boost = insane gas mileage. I filled up on Tue and have been driving since (still above the halfway)...I used to fill up every 2.5-3 days.

Think the max of 4 lbs. boost has something to do with that?!

Zach McAfee 05-17-03 12:03 PM

I'm confused, why are you getting only 4lbs of boost?

Nice burnouts. What parking lot was that?

Josepi 05-17-03 11:41 PM

The S5 ECU controls a boost control solenoid (electric bleed valve). Removing the stock ECU meant making that thing not work. So, I have to get a nice MBC and install it.

I didn't even get to drive my car today... :(

Zach McAfee 05-18-03 09:53 AM

Well, it seems like the microtech would be able to control it.
Brian, we did the burnouts in a parking lot where Robin works.

No, Microtech can't control it. They are working on that according to Dale though. Should be ready within 6 months or so.

Sorry I didn't make it for the Halo event last night, I passed out a few minutes after I talked to you.

OMP Removal

It took a while, but I finally got everything off and blocked off. For those of you thinking about taking your omp system off, here are a few tips that may prove useful. The oil injectors are 14mm. However, you can't fit a wrench on the injectors that screw directly into the housing. (Zach and I had to do this when rebuilding) I took a 14 mm wrench and ground it down so it was thinner and i could fit it in there.

Also, when you cut your bolts down to size, make sure you count the threads on the injectors and cut the bolt down to that number. When i cut mine, I went on the length from the bottom of the threads to where the washer sits on the injector. I forgot you need to take into account that 1/2 inch or so that is taken up by the oil line that feeds the injector.

Bolt size to plug up the holes for TII is 10x1.25 and for n/a is 10x1.00 (I think, you may want to double check for n/a) One other thing, the smallest 10x1.25 bolt I could find was 17 mm which made things a little tight, especially with the intake manifold injector holes. If anyone decides to do this, try to find a head size of 14 mm or so, would make things a lot easier.

Zach McAfee 05-19-03 09:29 AM

So the premixing begins...
I have a couple bottles you can use to make it easier. They're just fuel injector cleaner bottles that have a long neck to make fill-up easy.
So I'm thinking Wed. night we'll do it again. Maybe start a hump day tradition. I'll see if I can get more people this time too. Some pool hotties would be nice. :D

That's what I'm trying to figure out. The ECU has an AUX output that is (-). So it turns devices on by supplying the ground. You can map the AUX function to a certain boost level.

Sooo I was thinking, why not just supply the power to the solenoid, then have it switch on as boost needs to be made. But then the problem hits: no way to turn it off.

Then I started thinking about this as a solution (any electrical engineer can feel free to chime in :)):

Have 12V supplied to the solenoid via switched ingition. Now that solves it not working at all. But now, how to turn it off? Is it possible to hook up an automotive relay so that it can sense a ground and disconnect the solenoid via the 12v or the ground?

In theory it would bleed off the wastegate line until a certain boost pressure is met, then it would turn off...the boost pressure could be set via the ECU. Now the only interesting part is HOW IN THE HELL to wire a relay to switch something OFF based on a ground.
