Nevermind on the drive sunday, I'll be watching at the autox. Yay.

l33trx7 05-07-03 11:24 PM

I will try and get to the auto-x this time, byt I can't promise anything.

Josepi 05-08-03 07:56 PM

Starting what will be the last bit of work tommorow night!

:)

Going to gut the cats and figure out a way to rid the AFM. Don't know how to do it, yet retaining the stock air box to keep boost down under 8-10.

brianmcd 05-09-03 10:52 AM

Anyone here going to the auto-x sunday?

Zach McAfee 05-09-03 12:20 PM

I'm running and Mike probably is. 1st heat at noon.

the whole point of running after market ems is to be able to run 15psi without blowing up! :D

15psi on 4x550cc with a rewired stock pump?

Nooo way! I want the motor to last me a lil while longer ;)

I'm thinking about getting the 550cc injectors bored out to 1000cc and a walboro, that'll let me do that kind of insanity on the stock turbo... :)

Zach McAfee 05-09-03 01:50 PM

Well, according to this http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/2ndgencalc.cgi , you can run up to 250 fwhp before the injectors exeed the recommended 80% duty cycle. I don't know how much boost it would take with stock everything to exceed 250.

Edit: This is some good info too: (RX7.com)
The stock fuel system on the 2nd generation Turbo II RX-7, with an appropriate ECU upgrade, can support upwards of 300HP(*) on the stock motor. The first component in the system to need replacing is the stock fuel pump.
Your next limitation in the fuel system comes from the injectors themselves. The stock Turbo II fuel system uses two 550cc injectors for primaries and two 550cc injectors for secondaries which come on a higher RPMs (Non-Turbos use 460cc). Those injectors, maxed to their extreme limit (100%), will support approximately 420HP(*) at stock fuel pressures. You don't want to push the injectors beyond 80%-85% duty cycle though for reliability reasons.

I read that earlier today as well on my lunch break. Looks like the stock injectors will stay in until i get a bigger turbo at least.

Zach, when you turn your a/c compressor by hand does it have much resistance. Mine spins with almost no resistance, but I thought that was because it had no charge at all. The guy at the a/c shop said I need a new compressor, which is why I ask. Can anyone else offer some advice on this?

if you can run 10psi on the stock fuel system and ecu and not blowup you can run 15psi on the microtech and stock fuel system with a walbro and not blowup :)

It should spin freely, it should only give resistance when the compressor clutch is engaged.

Don't be a pussy! ;)

DavidR 05-09-03 04:45 PM

Josepi- I have a 3rd gen pump if you are interested. I also have a Supra pump that I'm getting ready to replace if you would are interested in that.
I think even the 3rd gen pump would allow you to run more then 10psi.

Well car is running got it started this evening.I have 1 coolant leak on the BAC i have to fix other than that everything went good.I will try and make it to the autox on sun. might stop by for a little while on the way to mother-n-laws house.(If she lets me).

brianmcd 05-09-03 09:38 PM

I'm excited about the autox sunday. I have the gold first gen, so everyone say hi. It'll be my first time at an autocross, but I'm not racing. It'll be fun to see everyone though.

brianmcd 05-10-03 08:13 PM

Hey. I was going to follow mike to the autox tomorrow, but it seems I won't be able to. Can anyone tell me the name of the place where it is? (Somewhere in Dinwiddie) Also, does anyone have any directions from huguenot road? Thanks. If you read this please respond tonight, seeing as how the event is tomorrow.

The easiest way is to take 95 south to 85 south. The exit is about 3-4 miles down 85 and is marked "Virginia Motorsports Park." Take this exit and the track is well marked about 5 miles down on the right. Can't miss it.

brianmcd 05-11-03 08:03 AM

Sweet, thanks man. I'll be leaving hopefully in an hour or so.

Josepi 05-11-03 08:07 AM

Word to the wise everyone, tap-ins SUCK ASS.

I would have been done last night, but now I have to rewire about 7 connections. I'm going to get started as soon as I can get to my house... :)

Josepi 05-11-03 01:46 PM

Done...

:)

Now I just have to set the idle so it stays on with my foot off the pedal. :)

Josepi 05-11-03 02:17 PM

Idle is dead on...one problem I do have, the solenoid that used to control the boost in S5s is now unplugged and not working...MBC here I come...

Hey guys, well it looks like I will have the funds for an fd, so I have been looking around and dont-be-a-rikki's car is for sale and seems like a good deal. I like the non-sequential setup he has and the car seems nice overall. But then there is the issue of PFS... I really don't know what to think. What are your opinions on his car?

Here is a link to a page with his mods: http://www.dontbearikki.com/id20.htm

Thanks in advance for the advice.

DavidR 05-11-03 07:29 PM

PFS knows what he is talking about. That is one sure thing about him. He has hired a good tech although I forget his name. I met him at VMSP last year and he is a real nice guy.
Good luck in the hunt for an FD.

Josepi 05-11-03 08:28 PM

Aboot that FD ;)

1. Compression test.
2. Vacuum test.
3. VIN check on the block.

I have no experience personally with PFS, but if the car is in good shape, get it!

afterburn27 05-11-03 08:42 PM

Would his car pass emissions in VA? I am not up to date on VA emmissions laws since I didn't have to worry about them with the TR6.

It has a downpipe, midpipe, and cat back... the rest of the mods are on his site. Anyone know the emmissions requirements in VA?

Again, thanks in advance. :)
